Feeling strange after waking from vivid dreams

Does anyone else that have very vivid dreams sometimes have a hard time 'recovering' when waking up? It's hard to explain..I had a dream last night of my deceased grandma and deceased friend..we were in this cafeteria type place talking, and I really feel like it was like an inbetween world between the living and the dead. The dream in general was pleasant, but after waking up from it I feel very anxious, have some derealization, and kinda feel like I'm not 'fully back' in this world yet...if that makes any sense at all! Does anyone else have any idea of what I mean? lol

Yes, I have had dreams that stick with me for hours or even longer....and they can cause a D/P D/R feeling!

Some people find dream journaling helpful.:) It can be good to express the feelings brought about by the dream...and to see if there are any patterns/triggers to be aware of...

I also sometimes check for the meanings of dreams with a site I found...it's interesting...though I don't know how much truth is actually in it. If you'd like the site, let me know and I'll post it for you.

I dream of my deceased father sometimes. To be honest, I welcome those dreams.

Yes! I hate when I can't shake them off. It casts a weird mood on my whole days, like SC said.

I've googled it before when I was having it happen a lot and it's not an uncommon occurrence, especially if you're under stress.

I had a panic attack a little while ago and had to take some anti-anxiety medication to fall asleep.

I woke up in a sweat dreaming of something "ghostly" and ended up starting to shake and cry. I found my way into my then-separated wife's bed, not too close, and fell asleep.

Within about 10 minutes I had a dream, so vivid, of trying to open the door to the bathroom and "something" on the other side kept closing it on me and I started to scream...in real life.

My wife shook me awake, and as I realized where I was and opened my eyes, a face, almost veiled, just stood out in front of me and was screaming at me without making a sound.

I thought I was losing my mind and it stayed with me, still does, for days on end.

Most of my anxiety-filled dreams stem from my relationship with my BP wife, so I make sure that I keep up on my physical health like taking walks and working out, which I find help dramatically.

I thought I was the only one...

Yeah, they’re terrible. I get these vivid/false awakening dreams, and although the dreams themselves aren’t that bad, it’s the feeling you get when waking up. I wake up feeling super tired with some derealization, and it freaks me the hell out, especially since I have this really bad fear of going crazy (ocd). My anxiety dropped after reading this, im glad I’m not the only one.

I can relate to you and have nightmares if I sleep which is rare.

After it feels weird so its not a pleasant experience and lasts for few hrs.

vivid dreams can be a side effect of some medications.

Hello all, I have recently had a similar experience! A few days ago I had an odd vivid dream, and when I woke, I had a very strange unexplainable feeling. It’s almost like a disconnection from reality, it’s like I was in between a dream and reality. It almost led me to a panic attack. The feeling has somewhat lingered a few days but has been getting better. Anyway, reading this thread really helped with my anxiety and reassured me I’m not alone, just wanted to share my own experience.

I actually had this happen to me today and I found your post on google after searching for answers on what this is... this has happened to me many times and I hate it. I have always had vivid dreams but sometimes I wake up from them and feel as if I’m still dreaming or as if something is wrong or changed about reality. It gives me anxiety because I often wonder what this means or dream emotions carry over making me feel different or uneasy about reality. The feeling today was a feeling of dread and sadness. I felt alone and scared like reality was not meant to be good. Perhaps it is actually another bad dream or a sort of pergatory for us to endure... my house felt cold and unwelcoming... and meaningless. I had been dreaming about my boyfriend and family that live far away. We were together in my childhood home but something was wrong. Everyone was trying to leave and I just wanted them to stay but everything I did just made them more annoyed. My boyfriend said we should start our own family but that just made me more sad because I can’t have children. When I woke up I felt this sense of dread and abandonment for the next two hours. Rationally I know that these feelings were just carry over from the dream and my own irrational fears but when I wake up like this it feels real. Even though I am trying to remember it is just the anxiety, it is hard to shake. I can only wait until it does... so weird...

I keep having dreams of me dying and when I wake up it sends me into a state of de realisation and panic

Even called an ambulance out this morning after one because I was in such a bad way

I have sleep apnea too so I’m always anxious about sleeping as I’m waiting on my treatmeant for it
