Hi, I posted a few weeks ago about my situation with Lexapro and problems with the generic. I'm feeling a lot less anxious this week (no where near where I'd like to be) but I have some other side effects re lexapro I'm looking for opinions on...
I have been losing quite a bit of hair since the summer, handfuls in the shower and have a marked reduction at the temple and forehead, yesterday a large clump easily slid from my head while showering. I decided to google and as usual freaked myself out lol.
Obviously hair loss can result from stress and depression, but as I've had both these conditions for 20 odd years with no hair loss I'm not sure this is it. So I googled lexapro, and there are many many reports from people who have had severe hair loss on the drug. The only solution was to come off it. Even with that some people have permanent reduction.
Now I didn't think I was vain and to tbh the benefits of lexapro during the summer to me seem to outweigh even hair loss (to an extent) but I'm very anxious about the situation at the moment. I'm going to have full bloods done in the New Year to check hormones etc and also stop styling and heating products for a while but was hoping for some personal experiences from anyone out there.
Have you experienced hair loss on lexapro?? If so did you have to come off, or were you able to stay on the med and manage to stop the hair loss?? Also like to hear from people with the opposite experience...who have been on lexapro for long periods with no noticeable hair loss?? I have been reading a lot from websites with post after post of negative experience so looking for a bit of balance to calm me down lol

Hi Marie,
No personal experience to share...just wanted to add my support. This would be very upsetting to me as well.;(
When you have your blood work done, make sure they check your TSH (they should, it's standard) for thyroid levels...
...also consider your nutrition? How have your eating habits been? If you are missing key nutrients from lack of appetite for example, this would be a reason for your issue.
Hoping you get the answers and solution you need soon!

Thanks for the support Scaredy Cat. I take a lot of fish oil and supplements and eat well for the most part, have type 1 diabetes and have to watch what I eat, so I try to avoid refined foods as much as possible. I have a pretty good exercise routine since the Summer when I finally started coming out of my depression and lexapro kicked in and got me back into the world.
I seem to be having a blip the last few days. Fixating on this issue a lot and on other random things. I was at the gym thismorning which would usually help but I've gradually gotten more and more anxious through the day. I'm hoping it's part of the start up side effects. When I was balanced on lexapro a few months ago I wouldn't feel the need to fixate on this issue. Before I was on medication I would have health anxiety and google symptoms and stuff and always make myself feel worse, that stopped when I started the treatment. I've tried to meditate a few times today but just keep bursting into tears, today is definately a bad day lol

I'm on lexapro and have not experienced any hair loss and I am super prone to side effects. I'd check with yr doc just to be safe.
Good luck and try to stay positive.
