Can one catch anything from a toilet seat?

So I went to the restroom, #2, and I have this ritual in public restrooms. I flush, wipe the seat off, and put a protector down. When I got up this time, the top of my jink grazed the inside of the toilet seat. I washed it off. Am I good? Lol

You are probably good, I wouldn't worry about it. I use public restrooms all the time and I've never caught anything from one. :)

LOL, sorry but that did make me laugh.....but I would fear that too, especially if my junk hit the seat, being I am a woman wink Another doctors visit would be in order for me, or a call to The Guinness World book of records.

I fear touching things in bathrooms, so it is a daunting task to turn the water on with a paper towel, push the soap with a paper towel, turn off the water with a paper towel, open the door with a paper towel.

I believe most STD's have a very short "shelf" life on a toilet seat, and the situation would have to be ideal. I remember being scared that I could get HIV from smoking after someone, so I called the HIV hotline, they didn't laugh at me but said I would have to have an open wound in my mouth, there would have to be body fluid on the cigarette(which I'm sure I would have noticed a clot hanging off of a cig)...etc etc, but I do understand how it can kind of make your skin crawl.

Yeah, you're good and yeah, we know what you meant. I couldn't help but giggle at your post. Thanks for lightening the mood : ) I do know some people that follow the same habit of flushing, wiping, and putting a seat cover down.

Thanks for the laugh, I needed it! You should be just fine, even if your "jink" did hit the inside of the toilet seat. Stuff doesn't live that long on seats and such. :)

I'm a public bathroom phobic. I don't sit- would rather clean up any sprinkles I may have made and flush with my foot. Wash hands thoroughly and leave using the paper towel I dried with to open the door.
Bring clorox wipes to hotels because I don't trust that the toilet, door knob, light switches etc. were cleaned properly. All stems to when I was in the hospital and I saw the cleaning person using the same rag that the toilet was cleaned with to do the sink and shower with...yuck
At home I'm known as disinfecto.

RA, I remember my dad pointing out a restaurant employee using the same rag to clean off chairs and then the table. SMH

What Can You Catch in Restrooms?

If you squirm at the thought of creepy germs lurking on toilet seats and faucet handles, you probably spend as little time as possible in the restrooms of your office building, not to mention those in restaurants, hotels and (God forbid!) gas stations. And during those nerve-wracking moments when you dare to venture into the confines of the bathroom, you may find yourself pushing open the stall door with your elbows, crouching precariously above the toilet seat rather than letting your skin touch it, and flushing with your shoe.

But while there's plenty of bathroom paranoia to go around, anxiety might be a little overdone. Yes, there can be plenty of bugs lying in wait in public restrooms, including both familiar and unfamiliar suspects like streptococcus, staphylococcus, E. coli and shigella bacteria, hepatitis A virus, the common cold virus, and various sexually transmitted organisms. But if your immune system is healthy, and if you adopt simple hygienic measures like handwashing, you should be able to deliver a knockout punch to most of what you encounter and perhaps put your "germ-phobia" to rest.

I always bring alcohol wipes with me wherever I go. I wipe EVERYTHING before I use the public bathroom. LOL There is nothing clean about a public toilet. Homeless people use it too. Don't ever think anything 'public' is going to be safe or clean. Nothing is.
