Genesight Testing for Meds

I've been struggling to find the right medication for the last 6 months, and my pdoc suggested, genesight Assurrex testing to see which drugs my liver metabolizes better.

Has anyone used this? Let me know about your experiences.

I've been feeling so low lately and I'm so scared. I have three beautiful kids and a supportive husband, but I can't imagine living like this for much longer.

Please provide any support you can. To know that others went through this and eventually got better is the only thing keeping me going, other than my family of course.

Hi Keaz,

I don't have experience to share about this testing...but I think it sounds like a really good plan.  If you can take some of the trial and error out of finding the right med for you, then it is worth it!

The downside?  It can be expensive.  However, some insurances now will help cover the cost and Genesight has financial assistance programs...so it is becoming more feesable for patients.

I do hope this helps you to find the right Rx for you...it is out there, so don't despair.  Recovery is going to happen.:)

Are you also currently working a therpay program?  This in conjunction with your Rx will give you the best possible treatment plan.:)

My insurance does cover it, so it's $200 out of pocket. I am in therapy, but switching therapists as the one I've had hasn't given me any coping skills, etc.

I know I will eventually find something, I just hope it's sooner rather than later.

Glad to hear you are doing therpay...

...but now I am going to sending wishes of finding both an Rx AND a therapist who you feel is going to challenge you, teach you the skills you need...and be all around helpful in your recovery.:)

Hi Keaz,

I am so sorry you haven't been able to find the right med for yourself.

I have heard that sometimes it is hard to find a good therapist and I am wondering why yours has not given you any coping skills.

Try to be positive now that you know you are going to get tested and it won't be long before you are given the right drug.

…and remember, you have people that love you :)

I appreciate everyone's support. This has been the most difficult 6 months. But someone told me something yesterday that has been helping me get through the day today and I have actually been productive at work.

Act as if, until you are - the words are so simple but for some reason it's worked. I guess that is my first coping skill :)

I don't know if the test will point out the right drug, but it will certainly be a guideline that my p-doc can use to determine what's next.

I am so glad you found a quote that helped you out. Just keep telling yourself that…..

I suggest you tell your therapist that you would like to have some coping skills for when you are feeling this way.
