Creepy man on bus!

Omg, last night...

It wasn't a really crowded bus. There were a few empty seats. I sat in one of those seats, just minding my own business.

Then this couple came on the bus. They were both dressed nicely, well-groomed, professional looking...businessman and woman. I think they were married. 

The man (husband) was standing in front of me. He was staring at me, eyeballing me. He wouldn't move! I of course felt extremely uncomfortable. I tried not to look at him...and pretending to sleep. After a few minutes, .....I looked up... and he was still standing there staring at me! He then started to breathe heavily and murmur LOL. OMG!
 
His wife(?) called him and said, 'Honey, there is a seat back here, come sit down'. He said 'No, I'll stand'. He was still there right in front of me, he wouldn't move. OMG

I was scared, freaking out, tried to call his wife...but she was too far away. Finally, after 20 minutes (too long!!!)  it was my stop,  I quicky stood up, and got off.

 

OMG! What the hell was that! How can his wife not notice that I was freaking out?! That was the scariest thing ever.

 

I know what to do!!

You stand up and loudly and firmly say "Excuse me, you are in my personal space."

If at that point the person does not back off...you push past them and go to another spot yourself.

Assertiveness is sometimes necessary for your own safety. Don't be concerned with being rude...they were the rude ones to begin with.

Once late at night, while pumping gas, a man started to approach me and ask for money. As soon as I saw him coming toward me I put my hand up in a stop motion and yelled "Stop There!" I scolded him for approaching a woman alone at night...how dare he?

He apologized...he meant no harm..
but how was I to know that? I do not put myself in the position to be a victim...ever!

It is okay to get out of a situation you are uncomfortable with. Go with your gut and instinct...and don't worry about offending. It is your right to feel safe.

Melodee - That sounds awful! I would have freaked out if I was in your position too!

I get the bus to and from work and a couple of months ago a guy sat right next to me and had his legs spread so wide that I was squashed against the window! Then he put his hand in his pocket and I thought he was going to try and steal my phone... Then he started fiddling with his bits!! I was absolutely mortified and I couldn't say a word.

Some people don't realise how much of an awkward position they put others in!

I know your pain on this for I ride the bus and men can be creeps and do and say vulgar thing's, not caring they're harrasing a woman in creepy ways be careful hope you never have to deal with that again.

When I was a teenager I was on a bus, when I got off a man got off too and ended up following me to where I was going. That and a few other things that happened put me off on riding the bus. I have rode the bus once in the past 30 years and that one time, it took me over a hour and 5 buses passing by before I got up enough nerve to ride it and while on I had a panic attack the whole time. Never again will I ride a bus, so I feel for you. Sorry his happened to you.

SC- I just want to say Thank You!! Thank you for giving me words to use in awkward situations. It seem like such an easy thing to say, but for me, I'm a huge wimp and completely afraid of confrontation, so it felt very empowering.

I'm sure mine would still be spoke in a soft voice, and maybe a slight tap on the shoulder, but hey, I'll get there some day!

Sorry to hear you had to deal with that it must of been a scary experience and I am glad you are ok SC has given some good tips so maybe you could practice them at home so if it happens again you can use them.
