Essential Oils for Anxiety????

I've heard and been reading that essential oils can help relieve anxiety. Has anyone tried them?

I've tried them. I continue to try them, but I'm not gonna lie, they unfortunately give me no relief. My sister is a DoTerra rep and despite her insistence that oils are the way to go for just about everything, they haven't helped me with anxiety, panic or sleep. However I do enjoy Lavendar and consider it a relaxing smell because they use it at the place where I get my massages.

It certainly can't hurt since everyone is different. Make sure you use a good brand and I would suggest only buying a couple to start and see how you like them. Through DoTerra I would say to try the Lavendar, Serenity, Balance and Wild Orange.

I've been using essential oils for about 15 yrs now and yes it has been very beneficial for me. Buy a book and understand the effect of herbs/plants, how oils are extracted from these plants and why they are helpful. Herbs in general have been used as medicine for hundreds of years.

Also, you should always buy 100% pure essential oils, and not the ones mixed with artificial scents and additives, as anything artificial would affect the chemical components of the oil which will in turn reduce the effectiveness of the oil.

My wife and I use essential oils, I prefer lavender as I'm falling asleep.

Hi, just found this forum and am excited to dive in.

I just started .5mg Lexapro last week for generalized anxiety that seems to be worsening as I enter perimenopause. I have been considering using essential oils particularly to help through the initial side effects. Mornings in particular are really bad for me, once I get to work and get busy, the day goes much better.

Are there any concerns of interactions between essential oils and the Lexapro? I would like to try them both topically on my pressure points as well as diffused.

Hi and welcome!

I can't imagine that there would be any interactions between you Rx and the oils...

Only trace amounts would be absorbed, and it doubtful that any would enter your bloodstream, as to be able to be an issue.

That being said...we are not medical professionals here. ..so a consult with your doctor, or even pharmacist would be in order to know for sure.:)

SC is right it probably won't interact with your med.

However, always remember to mix it with carrier oil as you're not supposed to apply essential herb oil directly on your skin.
