Hi I'm Marci. I'm 29 and from Massachusetts. I have suffered from anxiety for as long as I can remember. As a kid though it was always manageable and the attacks only lasted a few minutes. It wasn't until 2008 that my anxiety hit a level I was not prepared for. I stopped leaving my house, I pulled away from friends and family; mainly because I didn't want to be a burden on them, I stopped living. After five years of a seriously abusive relationship where I was physically, sexually, and verbally abused, and almost killed twice, I thought the anxiety would ease up once I finally left the situation. But instead it got worse. I was at a point where even getting the mail caused a panic attack. I remember praying to die, because I just couldn't handle the attacks anymore. As the kid they lasted minutes now they lasted hours and leaving me physically and emotionally drained when it was over. Now finally with the help of my service dog I can live again. I went to the mall for first time in six years, I went to the movies and out to eat.I am getting together with friends and family again. I am happy to be alive. Although I still have my bad days things are looking up and I know I'm on my way to recovery. I just hope one day I can inspire someone else not to give up. Even at my darkest moments and my most vulnerable I am glad I fought, glad I survived and glad I am here to spend even more time with the ones I love.

I am so sorry to hear of the anxiety and trauma that you have endured....

...but thrilled to hear of your amazing work and perseverance to fight, and ultimately gain mangagement skills for your challenges!

I think that the 'one day to inspire someone else to not give up' you mention in your post, is today! Many, many people read here...and you may never know the impact you have had on someone's life just by sharing!!

I just wanted to thank you for sharing your story as well as welcome you here. Maybe a service dog would be of benefit to me. I don't know.

Coco Bella (my service dog) has been a huge help for me. She is still in training and I have only had her a month but have noticed a significant difference. She alerts me when I start displaying anxious behaviors, gets my medication for me, she also helps bring me back to reality if I do have an attack. I am currently training her to bring me to an exit and/or bathroom if I need to leave or an "escape"
during an attack. She also can open/close doors and bring me items if I drop them, with being in a wheelchair that is extremely helpful.
