prozac stopped, now trying luvox

My daughter said she couldn't stand her irritability on prozac so she stopped it and now the dr is going to try to taper her from Lexapro (not working anymore) to luvox, starting off slow, 25mg.

Has anyone recently used luvox for ocd?

Has anyone done the gene testing for what possible ssri might work? I think it is called cytochrome p450.

I'm very concerned and appreciate any information. Thank you

I take lexapro and it does not help OCD for me; nor much for anxiety and panic. I did not know you could do a gene test for ssri compatibility. Good to know.

Sorry to hear the Prozac is not working for your daughter that's a shame as I do find it works well for my OCD.

I have never tried Luvox so can't really comment on that but I hope it works well for her keep us posted with here progress.

I also never new you could get a gene test for compatibility with an ssri would be interested to find out more about that.

Thank you fightUc, never thought of that! She is low in Vit d, 19, and her ferritin is 22, so gi wants her on 50000 of D and oral iron. Don't know if she can handle the iron, she hasn't tried either yet. Her hemoglobin is good, 13.4.

I emailed her to please ask dr about both, levels and the test, hope she will.

Do you think she could just add 500 magnesium for now? It's hard to get her to follow through with what I say, with the anxiety and her not wanting to do too many changes at once.

Hi beckysmom, I haven't tried luvox either so I can't say if it is any good or not, I wish her all the success on it though.

Yes, I've heard about the testing for SSRI, but I haven't had it done. I think someone on the depression forum was in the process of doing it. It's a spendy test and most insurances won't cover it if I remember right. It's like about 500 bucks.

Beckysmom, Please have her talk to her Doctor before starting any supplement, :) I had to delete the comments about magnesium due to it's not scientific approach and it contained info that should only been giving to you by your daughters doctors.

Thank you AngelLisa. She spoke to her doctor about the magnesium and the gene test. Dr does the testing, so I hope it helps my daughter since she couldn't stand the Luvox, she felt horrible and couldn't get out of bed. My daughter has a difficult time with meds since her neurotoxic incident 4 years ago. I hope the dr can figure something out for my daughter.
