I started a really stressful job about
seven weeks ago and every afternoon at work my throat feels really tight. I figured out it's kind of like the feeling you get when you have to cry but don't. My younger sisters also very ill and we just went to Florida for the weekend, since we've been back she hasn't been feeling very well and I'm worried about
her. Is anybody else ever had this throat tightening feeling? I really have got to find a different career. But I'm not having much luck in that area. My younger sister sent a text tonight that she feels like everyone is giving up hope on her recovery which is heartbreaking to me. Sometimes I'm just not sure how to handle the stress of my job there's just way too much to do in a day. If you've had this issue before can you give me some pointers on what you've done to get rid of it?

Hi HN
Sorry to hear you are having a tough time at the moment and also sorry to hear about
your sister I wish her a speedy recovery.
Yes I have had the same symptom in the past and it is caused by anxiety/stress so you need to use any coping skills you have to get your stress/anxiety under control then I think you will see an improvement with your throat.
I would say that if you are feeling stressed at work you need to speak with your supervisor as they should have procedures in place to help employees with stress under law.
Keep us posted.

HN,
I am sorry to hear about
the stress and heartbreak of your sister's struggles that are affecting you currently.:(
I was so glad to see that you all had a great vacation together, but sorry that she is not feeling well currently.
Of course this is hard for you to see, and naturally, you are going to feel the emotional and physical symptoms of this hard time for your family.
Keep using your coping skills, even when it seems you have no time or energy left. This is when you need them most!
Carve out morning and evening minutes to devote to doing the exercises that help you most. Journaling, stress relieving techniques and meditation are all good.
Keep posting with us as well. We are here anytime you need to let your feelings out...or just need a virtual hug.
You are stronger than you know...I see that in all that you handle everyday. I know that doesn't make everything easy, or go away...
...but hopefully it reminds you that you can get through the challenges that are present at this time.
With encouragement,
S.C.

Hazel,
I get this way all the time at work. My job is super stressful and around the same time every day (for me, it's usually around 4 PM when my adrenaline is running out) I will feel this throat tightness. For me, the best method is drinking a glass of cold water and applying some relaxing essential oil at my tables and on my chest (lavender, peppermint, or eucalyptus usually do the trick.)
I'm sorry your sister is ill. I will keep her and you in my thoughts & prayers.
Xo
