Horrible side effect after taking Zoloft

Marlbest, I tried to tell you this and I'm sorry cause I know this isn't what you want to hear. But Yes this is normal when starting an AD, increased anxiety, rapid heart rate and other side effects are all NORMAL when starting. They last for a couple of weeks, but after 2 or 3 weeks at the most you should see the side effect go away.

I know it is hard hun, but try with all your might to get thru this start up stage, in the end you'll be feeling so much better it really is worth a couple of weeks of side effects.

Also, others have stated that they couldn't sleep on lexapro if taken at night, I know you just switched cause it made you feel sleepy when you took it in the morning, but if you keep not sleeping it might be worth it to change it back to mornings. Give it a couple days to see how it works taking it at night though.

Step up your coping skills right now while you go thru the start up, and know we are all standing beside you and will walk this journey with you. Keep posting here for support hun.

The SAME exact thing happened to my cousin the first time she tries Zoloft. She got a warming sensation that started near her head and spread throughout her body.

Seems like a pretty crazy feeling, but hopefully it brings some comfort that it is a somewhat common side effect. Good luck!!

Unfortunately starting medication can be a tough time but things do settle and if they don't go back and see your doctor but stick with it if you can.

It will take a minute for your body to adjust to your antidepressant. When I started Zoloft (around ten years ago) I remember some odd sensations. You just have to tell yourself it's just your body getting used to this foreign thing!

Hey marl. It would be my thought that your doc has put you on sort of a 90 day trial period. It really depends on the individual, but it's rare for someone to stop after only 3 months on an AD. Talk with your doctor to figure out what his/her intentions are.

I've been on Lexapro for almost a year now. I feel it is helping me, and I don't see myself stopping anytime soon. Maybe once my surgeries, and recovery from all of them are over? Who knows. One day at a time.

It's always tough starting something new, but you have this under control, and you have us. ;)

The advice I received about how long I would be taking medication is that I would need to experience at least 3-4 months with significantly reduced symptoms before weaning of a medication I have yet to achieve that but working towards it.

It a good idea to combine therapy with medication as I feel it is the therapy which makes the biggest difference.
