Effexor

I got in to see a physiotherapist today, I had made an appt a couple weeks ago but they had a cancellation so I got in early. I talked with her about my recent symptoms. She said it sounds like I'm having panic issues and not as much anxiety. I agree, I have recently been very panicked about my health and every thing I feel in my body I think is serious. She wants me to stop takin the Prozac my Pcp prescribed and start taking Effexor tomorrow.

I know absolutely nothing about any of these medications and I've never taken a daily med beside an antibiotic while I've been sick. Anyone have any positive or negatives on this prescrip? I'm not a fan of taking meds and didn't really want to take anything.

I take Effexor ER and find it helps with my anxiety, it also has a side effect of helping with pain so thats good for me as I live with chronic pain too. I didn't have any side effects when I started it, but I took it the day after I quit taking cymbalta.

I think effexor is a good med, for anxiety and panic attacks. Wishing you the best, Keep us updated.

I would like to give you my personal opinion, I want to say that this is just my experience and things happen different with everyone.

I personally did not react well to that medication. I wish I would of given it more time to work in my system. I only was on it for about a month. To make a long story short , it was affecting me in the way that I was doing things that I would of never done otherwise.

I strongly suggest you stay on it and give it a chance. Don't listen to the negative reviews. ANYTHING you take, you can taper off of with the right steps and help. So if you are afraid of withdrawal effects when you stop taking it, don't be. That is why I stopped taking it as well because I was too nervous with the withdrawal effects. (Go figure right?). Anything you take as long as not abused , can be undone as far as dependency. I will debate with anyone on that. So I would try it and see if it works for you

Sorry you have been dealing with panic and what to me sounds like health anxiety which tends to get grouped in with OCD as you become compulsive with checking your body for symptoms. I suffer with bad health anxiety but have found Prozac really helpful for it I am currently taking 60mg. I notice you said you were on Prozac do you take it daily?

I have also been on Effexor and did find it useful for my anxiety and depression but I did get a lot of side effects but it's important to remember that we all react differently to medication and what works well for one person may not work for an other. Effexor is an SNRI and is a strong med and I know a lot of people who have had good results with it. It is a tough decision to take an AD and it really is a personal choice but if you do give it a go it can take upto 8 weeks before you notice the full benefits.

I did find Effexor quite hard to discontinue and it took a long time to wean myself from it if I remember it was around 2 months.
