Has anyone ever tried topical magnesium oil for anxiety? I have constipation and was looking into it for that but apparently it also helps with anxiety and sleep, was wondering if anyone had tried it?
My stomach gets upset easily which is why I was looking at the topical oil over diet supplements.

No, I have not heard of this! I hope you find the relief you need...and if you get some anxiety/sleep help as well...then bonus, right?
Let us know how you find it if you give it a try!

I've heard of it but have never tried it. I hear it is very safe and works well for magnesium supplementing.
I just recently started back on Mag after I realized the kind I'd been taking was giving me diarrhea. Mag Oxide & Mag citrate are the 2 most common versions sold in drugstores and they often have a laxative affect. I tried taking calcium with them to prevent diarrhea but it still didn't work.
I recently ordered magnesium chelate bc I was told it is one of the least offensive on your gastric system. Been on it 5 days and 0 problems! Another way to get magnesium, is 3 Epsom salt baths per week. You use 2 cups per bath. Like mag oil, it absorbs through your skin and not internally. Plus they are very relaxing.

Thanks, I've not been to the toilet in 9 days so could really use a bit of diarrhea now! I'm hoping the topical magnesium will work for that but if not might have to try milk of magnesia or will try the pills

Omg just try the pills! The oil will absorb through your skin and bypass your gastric system altogether. Im telling all my friends with constipation, just take daily magnesium orally w/a supplement from the drugstore. I was taking high potency 400/day. Even the 200 gave me loose stools. If you need loose stools, take the kind from the drugstore!!!

My stools aren't hard its just I don't go often. At the moment I cant eat a lot so every 2-3 days seems normal for me now as not a lot comes out but its very thin and smooth when I do go. I've got some milk of magnesia to try as its supposed to be quite good for the stomach, hopefully it will get me going.

Milk of Magnesia is good for constipation. Magnesia = magnesium, lol.
Hibee, magnesium in the form of oxide or citrate (pill form), from the drugstore, is what gave me loose stools. I don't have constipation problems or I may have enjoyed that side effect. The oil Andy is talking about
is an excellent way to get daily mag but bc that oil is absorbed through the skin, it bypasses the gastric system & will not loosen stools.
Mag cannot hurt you (of course check with your GP or pharmacist), it can loosen your stools plus- it helps with many things like mood, pain, etc. Googling magnesium deficiency symptoms was a safe Google search for me lol & it seems many are mag deficient so for me, it will now be part of my daily vitamin regime.

Went out and bought some and as soon as I got back I went to the toilet, typical lol. Tried a little bit but seems to have mint which isn't good at all for my Gerd. Going to try the topical oil I think some people said it helped with constipation anyway when they rubbed it in their lower abdomen.

Do at least try the tablets. They're in the vitamin section at most pharmacy's. Drink lots of water too. Good luck "moving!"

Mine arrived yesterday and I put a generous dose on at around midday and then again before bed. It definitely helped with the constipation as I've spent most of the morning feeling like I need the toilet, still a bit of a struggle to go but been a couple of times, so the topical stuff does work for that. Can't say its helped my anxiety or pain at all though and I don't know if it was this but I had very vivid dreams last night and really didn't like it. Was quite stressed when I woke up this morning so I think I will just apply it in the morning and avoid it before bed. Did feel a bit more lethargic this morning too.

Andy,
Thanks for the report! Glad it helped with moving things along, gastro speaking...that's good.
...as far as helping for anxiety/other issues...it may need some time and adjustment before benefits are noted?
Taking in the a.m. only sounds like a good plan.
Peace and progress!
