Hello everyone!

I wanted to first thank you for your support through these last few weeks. My health is starting to improve and I have decided to start taking a SSRI to improve my mood and overall ability to manage stress.

On Wednesday night I started taking Celexa and immediately noticed yesterday that my mood has improved. It seemed strange that I would already be feeling better, perhaps it is just a placebo affect? I felt like I was in a fog most of the day, but didn't get the horrible nausea that my doctor warned me about.

Everything was fine until I started having sharp pains in my chest yesterday evening. It happened for only a few seconds and I found it difficult to catch my breath. This happened several times, for about two hours before the time I take the Celexa. Does anyone else experience similar symptoms in connection with starting this medication? The doctor warned me that it could interact with the Omeprazole and one of the antibiotics, but said that it probably wouldn't since it is less than 20mg.

Happy to hear about your quick improvement in mood with your Celexa...but sorry to hear about the pains.:(

Is this a new symptom for you...could it be realted to your GERD or ulcer?

Did your doctor mention what kind of interaction your Rx's could have? I imagine it is simply a matter of one rendering the other less than optimally effective...nothing serious, or you would not have been prescribed them.

Have you called your doctor just for peace of mind? I would go ahead, just to get some reassurance.

Hoping you get some answers soon...and that this experience is behind you now...

Well my doctor replied to my message I sent her. She believes it was linked to either the anxiety or heartburn, just like you suggested SC.

I called the pharmacy and they said that Celexa can cause palpitations due to interaction with an antibiotic I am on and also the Omeprazole.

I've been on edge all day worried about my health, but I'm trying to trust my doctor. Luckily the pain has not returned, but if it's due to stress then I know it will go away. It was just the scariest feeling and I would rather not continue suffering from this feeling. It was almost like a mini panic attack.

I'm on celexa for 10-15 years now. If has worked great for me but I think my body is use to it that I may have to change :(.

Thanks SC! I have felt on edge lately, but my mood is still great. My digestion has been getting better and I think I'm finally over this cold. I am traveling an hour today to visit my mother and then hanging out with friends tonight. I'm hoping for an awesome and relaxing weekend. Thanks again for following up with me. :)

Good to hear your mood has got a lot better that is great news i'm sure you will start to see an improvement with your anxiety to once the Celexa get fully into your system.

Also good news you are over your cold they are a real pain in the butt hopefully you got some good rest last night and are feeling better today.

Just an update:

I met with my doctor yesterday and she has decided to increase my dose to 20mg. I have been in a constant state of anxiety, with the exception of after I take the Celexa. about 30 minute after taking it, i become so drowsy that I pass out. I tried taking one 10mg pill at 9pm last night to find out if the reason it makes me tired is because I normally take it at 11pm, but I ended up falling asleep until 2am. I took the other 10mg at that time, but it made me have difficulty sleeping and I was up off and on between 2am and 6am. I was able to go back to bed from 6am-8am, but I am still very exhausted today.

I also have been experiencing a random ringing in my ears. When this happens, my head feels like it is full of pressure, I am light headed, dizzy, and disorientated. Is this a normal side effect? I was sick with a cold last week, so wonder if it is from that. It happens when I am sitting down and I cannot relate it to a specific trigger. It has happened 3 times in the last 24 hours; once yesterday evening after dinner, this morning, and a few minutes ago.

I have not taken Celexa yet but I have seen I have more ringing when I am in high level of anxiety/depression.
But with cold give it 2 weeks more and then tell your doc.
It can be side effects of meds too sometimes.Yes such pills make me overly exhausted and numb,non -reactive which causes me concern.
My doc even thinks I can do without pills but I insist as I get panicky that if I stop all meds for anxiety /depression I might not do better ..which is kinda addictive .
Anyways you might need another pill for sleep problems ,just see how you feel.

Best of luck with your increase...may it be a beneficial change, and the sleep issues subside soon!

As for the ringing in your ears and pressure head feeling. I have had this as an anxiety symptom...

...but since you were recently sick...this could be congestion, so watch for signs of any ear infection, just to be safe.

Keep up the good work and update us on your progress when you can.:)

Thanks SC. I have noticed that since the increase that my anxiety is already easier to manage, although I still feel very jittery and am having racing thoughts. I talked to my therapist about my frustration of the side effects; she reassured me that we would find something that works for me. It's just difficult to be patient during the time it takes for this medicine to get into my system. The ringing is still there, but it isn't as noticeable; I let my doctor know that it is happening and she said we would talk about it on Wednesday during my appointment.

Ugh over the last few days I cannot stop yawning. I take 20mg of Celexa before bed (around 10pm) and it knocks me out within 30 minutes. I have been waking up around 2am and some nights I am not able to go back to bed until around 5am. Then I finally get up around 9am. I'm sleeping about 8 hours a night, but is it normal for the Celexa to still make me feel tired after taking it for 2 weeks?

I know, for me...simply dealing with anxiety takes it out of me! So this could be a combination of your meds and anxious energy expended.

I can make it through the day, but definitely fall into bed every night...and can easily use 8 + hrs.!!
