Hi jumper,
Wow, you have had some traumatic things happen lately, but I'm sure you will be back to your old self very soon. I know you are worried your dad could have some sort of relapse, but that won't happen because that episode wasn't caused by an internal problem, it was an automatic response to something he saw/heard at the hospital that grossed him out. That's what a vasovagal response is. The body basically goes into shock because it thinks there is danger. It's almost like a panic attack in that regard.
I have experienced vasovagal responses my whole life, whenever I get grossed out. Most of the time it happens in the hospital when there is talk of blood or an IV or something I can't stomach. I get really hot, I sweat, my heart rate drops, I become white as a sheet, and I start seeing stars. If I don't lie down right away, the stars will develop into blackness and I won't be able to see anything. Sometimes my hearing gets blocked, too, so everyone sounds like they are really far away, and I get loud ringing in my ears. I have never lost consciousness, but I have fallen over (due to not being able to see or hear).
The reason I'm sharing this is because your dad will be completely fine, just like the doctor said. It's not life threatening although it can be scary to go through, or to see someone go through. Is this the first time it has happened to him? I would imagine he has gone through it before, if he has a weak stomach. Maybe that's why he hasn't been to the doctor's!
Take care and rest assured your dad is okay. :)
