Should I Add Wellbutrin?

Hi folks!

Thank you for giving my post your attention. Just to start off I understand fully that these are just opinions and not doctors advice.

Just curious for people's previous experiences.

I've had a prescription for Wellbutrin sitting in my medicine cabinet for the past couple of months.
I have been taking Lexapro 5 mg for the past year and I have been doing pretty well. My job is going just fine. There are certainly some anxious times here and there and some up-and-down days. However most days are pretty good as is.

My doctor had given me the Wellbutrin prescription (lowest dose, extended release) because he said he'd love to see me doing "better than just fine".

I am always pretty nervous of medicines. I do not like the feeling of feeling controlled by a substance and certainly do not want to feel that weird high feeling at all.

In your personal experiences how was adding this medication? Do you think that this could help someone like me do even better?

What can I expect to feel if I do start taking this medication? I know this is something that will vary from person to person. Just appreciate any insight. Thanks!

I have no personal experience to share...

...but know Wellbutrin to be a common add on Rx...that many have good results with.

Still, I understand your reluctance to add another Rx...and I would likely have the same concerns.

Have you done any research on Deplin? This is labeled as an 'Rx food' (vitamin B complex)...and may be preferable to you as an add on?

Look into it and discuss it with your doctor if you so choose.

There are so many differing opinions on medication. I have heard that Wellbutrin can be a little activating for anxiety patients. But I've also heard it is good for suppressing unwanted SSRI side effects (like tiredness).

Have you considered just going up on the Lex? The dosage you take now is considered subtherapeutic. Optimal is suppose to be 10-20 mgs for most. Might want to consider that as an option before adding a whole new script.

I was on a this combo and it helped me, but I agree with the other poster. I think you should consider upping the Lexapro to the 10mg first. I went from 5 to 10 to 15 and eventually to 20mg Lexapro and added the wellbutrin at the 15 mg level.

Like I said, the combo helped me. I had no issues going off wellbutrin, I was on vacation and forgot to take it and just stayed off. Wellbutrin did cause some extra anxiety for me, but it eventually leveled out.

I eventually went off the Lexapro also, but that was not a good idea, so I am slowly upping my dose to go back on that, hopefully being able to level out at 10mg.

I know a few people who have had good success with that combo so I would say give it a go and see if it works.
