Thanks everyone for the support when my first Xanax trial flopped. I decided today to give it another shot. I was so nervous though I couldn't swallow the pill so I put it under my tongue and it dissolved, I hope that was ok. I'm just waiting for it to take affect and so far I feel nothing it's been 15 minutes. I really just want to get calm enough so I can try one of my purée dinners I ordered. Hope everyone is doing well.

By the way Xanax under tounge tasted straight up nasty.

How did it turn out? Did you end up feeling relaxed enough to eat? I hope so!

I took half a pill and it made me feel terrible for hours. It went ok but still wasn't calm but nothing like last time. I was only able to eat alittle bit.

Okay...did it have any effect? I know you said you weren't calm...but were you calmer?

What dosage......0.5 or 1 mg?

If half dont work take the other half, the stuff does work and i took it for a great number of years, it was the
only way i could work and make a living for my family, bed time is best then when you feel a buildup take a
half, try to make it through the day knowing you can shut the panic and anxiety down when you get home.

Hi LAWCHICK,

I've been on a Xanax for almost ten years, they do work just give it about 20-30 minutes.
Sometimes if you're in middle of panic and take the Xanax, It seems longer to effect, because you're panicking and then all of sudden you're okay, because the medicine kicked in and you feel relaxed and feel normal.
I do agree that Xanax taste nasty, but with out the Xanax, I don't think I would of made it through all the anxiety/panic.
To me it is a life saver!!!
I was prescribed Xanax 2mg 3x a day.
I try not to take them all the time, but sometimes I feel I get anxious all the time even when I sleep, all I do is think for no reason and my mind races when I try to go to bed, so I take Xanax and next thing you know I'm a sleep.
JUST TAKE THE XANAX WHEN YOU NEED THEM, OR FOLLOW YOUR DOCTOR'S ORDER!!!!!

Hey LAWCHICK,

I forgot to tell you about Xanax, that when I take the med. it makes me eat like I was hungry for a long time and makes food taste good, even ones that you would not eat normally. That is weird, don't you think?

I agree with Larry 100%! You really need to just take your whole prescribed dose though. I could be wrong but I swear you said you were prescribed .25mg, at which point taking half would do just about nothing. I really think if you can give it a shot, you'll find that it's very helpful for you. Xanax saved my life a year and a half ago and helped me get things back on track. Fingers crossed for you!

I should have mentioned it takes very little of any kind of med to do a number on me, everyone is different
my wife still takes ativan as needed because the xanax was not strong enough for her, but for me as others
have already said i dont think i would be here today except for the positive effects i received from xanax,
i used it over 15 years and quit with no problems it has always been my believe that if one follows their
doctors advice and dont exceed that, that they will get good help with this drug, just knowing i could kill a
panic attack was a blessing. Peace

im sorry its not working for you. It works for me but it also knocks me out. I could never take it during the day unless I want to go to sleep. to others - how are you able to take it during the day and function? did you have to build up a tolerance?

Sometimes I think where you fill the Rx makes a big difference.
I get my prescription filled at the Walgreens.
Somehow they have a stronger Xanax, even though it's the same dosage.
I know for sure, because I tried ones from different pharmacies, and I noticed a difference.

Thank you all for your comments. The dose I am on is .25. It did help but only to a certain extent. I have a physical issue that causes eating solid food to be painful and difficult so right now I am just on puree which still is hard. The Xanax pill I took didn't make it any easier to eat but I worry about eating and I still kind of was worrying even after taking the pill. Im going to take it before lunch today but not sure this is going to help me unofurtantly.

.25 is a pretty low dose...

...do you think you could consider talking to your doctor about trying 0.5?

I am sending encouragement for today's lunch...great job on continuing to try and conquer this!

Well my Dr doesn't seem to want to deal with me anymore its like she is afraid to treat me. I am seeing another dr on Friday. I end up not having on days I have to work because one Im too anxious and its just impossible for me because of my work having zero lunch breaks I always get interrupted when I try to eat. Today I am just too anxious and have no appetite.

I have been letting the pill dissolve under my tongue and its not that type of pill so I am wondering if that makes it not work as well?

Yes I am. I just took one actually. I let it dissolve though under my tongue and then have some water because I have issues swallowing pills especially lately. After I take it I feel like I have taken nothing really, I don't feel tired or relaxed. I guess the dose may not be high enough but im just surprised because this is my first time taking something like this I thought it would have some effect even tiny bit.

Everyone responds differently. ..you may just need a more substantial dose...

...or a different benzo, as there are others that may be more effective for you, as a unique individual. I would say most doctors prescribe Xanax first...but that doesn't mean it is effective for everyone.:)

It's good to hear you are consulting with another doctor...you need to feel like your needs are being met!

p.s. I believe the way you are taking your pill is fine. Many meds are taken sublingualy. If the taste is too off putting, you could try crushing it and mixing with water or juice.

Yes I need to get a new DR. The doctor I have no is too afraid to treat me and that's why she gave me the smallest dose available. She has this reputation since I know a few others who treat with her.

Well I took another pill 7 hours later and I passed out for three hours. I'm up now but very very sleepy still. I guess the first dose wasn't enough but the second pill really did me in. Don't think I will be taking this anymore.

Sorry L.C.,

You may just be sensitive...

...use of coping skills may be your best bet for managing the anxiety/panic...

...or possibly do some research on Vistaril, and ask your doctor about this benzo alternative.

There are other possibilities to explore, so keep up hope.
