lexapro

hey everyone, I have extreme anxiety and I was prescribed lexapro, yesterday was my first day on it and I feel very very weird, disconnected and sort of high. I have tried zoloft in the past and the only side affects I had were weird dreams and gi problems. with this lexapro I feel as if I am in a dream and off balance. anyone have experience with lexapro and know how long this will last? I honestly don't think I can go to work like this. or even drive to work for that matter.

Lexapro is a good medication imo and is one of the stronger ssri's but as SC mentioned it is the norm to experience side effects during the start up but these should pass in a couple of weeks but if they don't go back and speak with your doctor.

I am also on Lexapro, went off and now back on did 5mg for 2 weeks, not really any side affects, went to 10mg, for a little less than 2 weeks, nausea, some extra anxiety and yes feeling a little spacey. Hoping only having to go a few more days before it evens out.

Lexapro is a good drug, as someone else mentioned, go 5mg and then maybe to 7.5 and then to 10mg. My side affects are bothersome, but manageable. So if you can, try to stick with it. And also, check with your doctor.

Medication can have numerous side-effects that's why I'm not fond of meds. They greatly alter my functionality. However I do believe that there are situations where meds are necessary. As for the effects, it would actually depend on the individual. Sometimes it takes days for any effect to manifest while on some the effects are instantaneous.

You can't rely solely on medications so here are some approaches that can greatly help with the anxiety and with little to no side effects to worry from.

Herbal tea such as Kava, chamomile, and lavender tea are great infusions that have calming effects. You can also consider nutritional supplements. Endoca hemp are great nutritional supplements with anxiolytic properties that can alleviate anxiety. There are also self-help techniques such as medication, exercise, aromatherapy, acupuncture, and simple music therapy. These approaches along with counseling can support to your meds.
