Hi there - Also a 27 year old female and prescribed the exact same medications, Lexapro and Vistaril. This is my first time being on meds, which I stared, I think, in October. I tried Zoloft first but had horrible side effects so they quickly switched me to Lexapro.
Your story is oddly familiar with me. My doctor also won't prescribe benzos and told me to see a psychiatrist for something like that. She told me that Vistaril is basically a hopped up benadryl. I've talked to people who take it throughout their day when needed and also people who only take it at night because it makes them sleepy. I typically am taking it at night, but have taken it during the day as well. It does not make me tired at all, which I think is uncommon. What dose does she have you on? I take 50mg at night but only 25mg during the day if I need it. I think it helps calm you down, it's just not as fast acting or as strong as something like Xanax.
It's a relief to hear from someone in such similar situations! I'm not sure what dosage she has me on, as I only spoke with the receptionist and she communicated back and forth between me and my doctor; the prescript
ion should be sent in in a few hours, so I'll see then. I really appreciate the info and advice! I have tried Xanax a few times (.25-.5mgs on a few occasions in my life, as my mother and sister have prescript
ions) and although I am typically wary of benzos I do like their almost immediate ability to calm you down. Hoping the Vistaril will be a less-scary alternative? Thanks again. :)
