I tried to go on Paxil ( 2 days) and I was waking up w bad anxiety and terrible night sweats... I can't!!! I was on 5mg of Lexapro for 2 months prior... I feel so depressed, derealization, anxiety and I just want to cry....
What should I do??? I barely leave my house bc of the way I feel.... I feel so alone and I really want a happy life but I feel like giving up...

I am sorry you are feeling like this. Trust me you are not the only one. But please do not give up. It's take a while before finding the right medication for you. For Paxil you only have it 2 days. It's needs a few weeks to start working. Yes you will still get panick attacks and anxiety until everything levels out. Maybe your dr. Can prescribe a benzo to help you get through this rough patch. ?? Please speak to your p-doc. There is hope out there.

I can't deal with the start up... I've been trying do many ssri for a year now... I can't take it anymore... I am crying while I'm writing this bc I just can't anymore...

Hi Gypsygirl,

It's okay, you can get through this. Finding the right medication or combination of medications can be very frustrating and time consuming. If you hang in there you and your Physician will find one that works best for you.

Do you have a Benzodiazepine (Valium, Xanax, Klonopin, ect) that you can take to help get you through this difficult time.

Is there a reason you were only on 5mg of Lexapro and not increasing to a higher dose? Lexapro at 5mg isn't going to be very helpful sad

You can do it gypsy girl. It will feel horrible in the beginning but I promise it will get better. You need to give the Meds sometime to kick in. Do you have any benzo???

Do you see a psychiatrist? If you only see your GP, you might do better to see a P-doc for the best knowledge of psychotropic prescriptions.

I am also sending encouragement to not give up. This is difficult now, but in time you will find the management plan that works for you.

Thank you for responding to my post but I'm so depressed, anxious, derealized, agoraphobic, and just all around hopeless... I don't leave my dark room, nobody ever comes in here... I'm just lost... Everyday is a fight... fight to live, to not lose my sanity, I'm losing this battle...

I am sorry, gypsygirl. You are not losing the battle --- you are having a difficult time at the moment. Things can and will improve. I know you can and will keep trying.

Please call your Mental Health Professional (Therapist or Psychiatrist) ASAP and tell them what you have written here. There is help for you.

I can't tolerate antidepressants either. They are not for everybody. There is a small percentage of people who just don't tolerate them - more harm then good. If you don't see a psychiatrist, make an appointment asap. Ask for some anxiety meds (valium, klonopin, Buspar), explain what is happening with you. They will not leave you in a state you are without help. There are many other options to get anxiety under control or at least to ease it. The reason the antidepressants are the drug of choice is because they are less harmful, less addicting then benzodiazepines, they work better on a long run. But if they don't work for you, you have to have something else. You can get better, seek for help! Hood luck to you and hugs.

Gp,

Don't give up...hang in there until your P-doc calls you back...and you can make an adjustment to your plan.

For now, keep reaching out...

...and use your coping skills. If you need new ideas, check our Resources to gain some new tools. (Moodgym is great if you are struggling with depression)

With encouragement. ..it will get better!
