Lexapro - Anyone get little jolts after taking it?

Hi all,

I'm on a small dose of Lexapro for GAD (5mg). I take it at night at bedtime, as it makes me tired.

about 20-30 mins after taking the Lex I start to get jolts through my nerves and muscles. The only way I can describe it is like restless leg syndrome sort of. I'll have a jolt in my leg and just have to twitch it or extend it to stop the ticklish irritation. Will sometimes get this in my arm/hands. Just the urge to just clench my fist or foot to make the nerve zap stop.

Anyone else get this or know what this is? Thanks for the help. smilewinkgrin

Does this just coincide with taking your Lex? I ask because I can get jumpy muscles, spasms/twitches just from anxiety alone...

...if you think it is the Rx that is causing the issue...you could ask your doctor about taking a fish oil supplement which may help, or even a muscle relaxant. (if safe for you to use)

You may also find Progressive Muscle Relaxation helpful to practice. You can find directions for this skill in the Stress Relieving Exercise link in the Resources here.

brain zaps are common with this med, thus so might the zaps you are facing. check with ya pharmacist, it may just pass on it's own.

I get these "jolts" from taking my Ambien at night. It's when my body starts to get really comfortable when they start happening. My fiancé takes Zoloft and gets them as well, and he's been taking it since July 2015. I would still being it up to my doc if I were you, just because it's good to report any s/e. :)

Also, how do you like the Lexapro? I might be giving this SSRI a shot, will know soon. Best wishes!
