Hi everyone - I am new here and posting because I have a relatively new Fitbit Charge 2 that monitors HR. it may be a mistake for me to have it and there is definitely times when it is causing me more anxiety than is likely necessary - other times it reassures me - like when I think my heart rate is high and then I check my FB and it is actually only around 80 or.
I have had heart worries for years and years. I am a 51 year old female. Healthy otherwise and at a health weight although I could certainly use more exercise which would likely help with my anxiety - but because of my anxiety around my heart I am always a bit scared to exercise too much.
I have seen cardiologists a few times over the years - most recently last spring - so i have had all the normal tests - echo, holter, ekg etc and everything shows as normal although PVCs and PACs show up occasionally - apparently i am very sensitive to them because the cardiologist says that most people that have them don't even know they are having them - I may have one little blip and i can feel it.
Any way what is concerning me now with this fitbit is that sometimes when I feel anxious and start panicking I look at my Fitbit and the HR display shows -- in other words it is not able to register my HR during these times - when I see this it sends me into a panic. I don't see this in the normal course of a day but if i start feeling anxious and worrying that I am having a heart attack or an arrhythmia then the display goes blank - I am wondering if it's because during this panic time my heart rate has shot up really quickly and the fitbit can't adjust. after a few minutes the hr display comes back on but by that time I am a total anxious mess. has anyone else had this happen with their fitbit? where the hr just disappears? i have had it happen a few other times randomly when I feel perfectly fine but that didn't worry me as much. I can find nothing on the fitbit forums to explain this nor can i find anyone else who has this problem.
I realize that getting rid of this thing may be the best thing for me but on the other hand there are many things about
it that reassure me - like a resting HR between 66-68 most days - I am happy about
that hope to improve it if i ever start exercising regularly. The next time I see my doctor I will mention this all to her but I don't know how much she knows about
fitbit hr.
i have also read that during an acute panic attack there can be abnormal heart rhythms in people with otherwise healthy hearts - so maybe something like that is going on for a short time during these attacks and the fitbit cannot register the HR during this time.
any comments are welcome
