This used to be a huge worry for me, too. As long as it increases with activity that is actually a very healthy HR. Mine runs low, too. It will dip as low as 36 while I'm sleeping and hangs around 48-52 when I'm just sitting around.
I totally understand the worry. I, too, tend to check my HR when I'm anxious. I've done a really good job cutting back on that as it tends to cause more anxiety.
