You will be okay
I've had many MRIs.
Contrast is a dye that will be injected via IV into your arm. A port is usually put into place and after the set of MRIs without contrast they will pull you out to inject (IV) the contrast, slide you back in for a much shorter time and then pull you out back out...and you are done.
Contrast is expelled by the body through the Kidneys. If you have had current blood work to check Kidney function and your Kidney function is good you should not have any problems with the Contrast. Drink water before your MRI (not a real lot for obvious reasons) and drink a lot of water after the MRI. The Contrast, when drinking plenty of water, will be out of your body by the time you pee once or twice.
It is very possible to get a very warm feeling in your body from the contrast, this will not last long. This happened to me and something the MRI tech as well as the Tech I had for a Cat Scan told me.
The MRI will not hurt you. If you would like a warm blanket on you in the MRI machine and it's not offered to you please ask if you could have one. The warm blanket might make you feel more calm. You will be offered music to listen to in the MRI. The music helps cut down on the noise of the machine and is something to concentrate on rather than the MRI. If perchance you don't want music then they will give you ear plugs, the MRIs are really quite loud. Some MRIs have movement to them, they may vibrate or shake. You will need to hold still.
It is allowed to take a Benzo before having a MRI if the person needs to. Usually you take half a dose before you get there and the other half before they are ready for you. If your anxiety is higher take more if your prescript
ion allows but make sure you have someone who can drive you there and home. It would be a good idea to call the Facility where you are having the MRI and ask about
the use of a Benzo.
