Anxiety-fuelled energy...

Sorry you feel so "wired" at the moment.

No, never had this but when I can't sleep I read in bed and have some kind of hot, milky drink.

Sometimes I play a game in my head called Newmarket.....choose a topic (I usually choose fruit or vegetables or flowers) and try to go from A to Z and name them.

ie...I went to market and bought an apple, I went to market and bought an apple and a banana, I went to market and bought an apple, a banana and a cherry and so on, I don't usually get past M or N before I fall asleep, lol

I know this feeling exactly! I'll be physically and mentally exhausted after a long day of work and bike-time and then as soon as it's time to relax, my body goes "NOPE NOPE NOPE" and heads into anxious over-drive. I'll toss and turn for hours and stare up at the ceiling until the sun comes up. It's not fun and can really exacerbate the feeling of not being in control.

For me, I do a bad thing and take 1/2 of a benadryl to take the edge off. I don't recommend this and prolonged benadryl usage has been recently linked to some unfortunate things. Using pharmacology to put a bandaid on a long-term problem isn't smart, but I usually stop having problems after a few days and go back to my normal sleep schedule. A roommate occasionally drank sleepy time tea or took melatonin, if only for a few days.

I second SC's suggestion of muscle relaxation. Having something to focus on, even if what you're focusing on is relaxing, sometimes helps me. Or I write stories and imagine fairytale scenarios on my head, just to take my mind off things.

Had my first appointment with my new psychologist yesterday which went okay... its only the first so I know I need to give it a good go.... gave me some coping statements and challenged me to do a yoga class :/ and mindfullness everday... hmmmm

And had an appointment with my doctor today which went great :)
Increase in Escitalopram to 20mg as my doc said my increase in anxiety symptoms recently was due to me getting used to my lower dose.

Tried out a few mindfulness meditation apps last night and bought a tea-packed eye bag... had a sound sleep- which was needed!

Feeling my anxious energy again tonight.... but will do muscle relaxation tonight and mindfullness.

I too am happy to hear about your good appointments! You are working hard on your recovery both from the therapy and the Rx angle...so know that you are well on your way!

The self help will really make a difference once you commit to it everyday and become accustomed to the exercises.

Keep up the great work, and keep us posted...we are cheering you on always!
