i've taken it at max does for about
4 years now. i dont recall any side effects starting or with ongoing use. it is very easy to go up and down in doses, not like an ssri that can take months to get into your system. very easy and agreeable med to take in my opinion. i have, however always taken it with an ssri on board. i guess looking back it has taken some of the physical symptoms of anxiety down a notch. i have always been on a few drugs along with the buspirone so i'm sorry i cant give you a more definitve review. at the very least, i believe it to be a very tolerable and like i said easy to take medication, and from what i understand, you should notice improvement fairly quickly. dont expect a miracle over night, but it falls between fast acting benzos and slow to act ssri's, you more than likely wont "feel" it kick in like some people do with benzos, more like a gradually lessening in the severity and frequency of anxiety/panic episodes. as far as ive researched there is no long term negatives to taking this med either, and supposedly doesnt wane in effectiveness either.
hope that helps
give it a shot and keep us posted!
good luck!

Hi JC,
Bispirone/Buspar is an anxiolytic, and usually prescribed for GAD. It is an older class of med, and...
...though not prescribed as commonly now as SSRI/SNRI's...works well for some.
One of our former mods was on this Rx and found it helpful when her anxiety was more mild, I believe.
You will have to see how it performs for you ultimately. ..
...but hopefully it will be beneficial !.:)
Let us know how you are coming along soon,
S.C.

I've been on buspar for just over two years. It's extremely mild and doesn't usually work on high anxiety. It usually takes at least two weeks to kick in. The only "start up" effects I had was dizziness after taking a dose. That is easily remedied by making sure you eat before taking or breaking the dose up into two.
Good luck!!

It's really not doing much for me so far,I guess I need to give it more time.

Yeah...give it a couple of weeks.
Some people seem to be able to take it as needed...but more often than not, it has better results taken daily...and with some time to build up in the system.
