I have been taking Zoloft for 2 years now, started out on 50 mg then upped to 100 mg x 1 daily. I have gone from 145 to 199 pounds, I am sick of this weight gain so I have decided to take myself off of the Zoloft.

I haven't lost any weight yet, but I have only been off of it for 2 weeks now. I didn't notice any side effects stopping the Zoloft. My question is I have PTSD from Mental/Physical abusive ex marriage of 23 years, wondering what the effects I will have not being on any medication?

I also took Xanax daily a low dose x 3 daily I have also stopped that cold turkey. I am going to try natural remedies to my PTSD/Anxiety/Depression any suggestions.

My ideas are enjoying nature, walks, spending time coloring with my 5 year old daughter and eating less and healthier choices. And most of all lots of prayer.

Any other suggestions would be so helpful, Thank you in advance :) love and light to all.

I am sorry to hear of the trauma from your past, and the resulting anxiety. I am glad that you are in a positive place in your life now, and looking to gain more healing/recovery..

I am happy to hear that your Zoloft discontinuation went well...however I am curious and a little concerned about the abrupt cessation of the benzo. How long has it been since you went off...and how are you doing with that? Without a taper, benzodiazepines can cause potentially dangerous withdrawal effects...so if this has been a recent wean...please check in with your doctor for advice.

Other than that...it sounds like your plan of action is on point. I love your coping techniques, and think you'll do very well. I also encourage you to check out our Resources at the top of the main forum page here for great self help material. Practicing the suggested exercises daily will make a big difference in how you feel!

If you find that you need more help for any issues that may still be lingering...therapy is always something I recommend for long term recovery.

Finally, posting here with people who care and understand is a great step too...support is key, and we'll be here to cheer you on anytime you need encouragement. :)

Thank you so much for the reply. I just quit taking period (cold turkey) I do feel some slight side effects which I think are different feelings of dizziness from time to time, but I am going to not go back on anything right now. I have been on prozac/xanax for 20 years, lexipro for 2 and zoloft and xanax for 2.

I do wish you success. Please do be careful with the benzo withdrawals.
They can be dangerous!

Welcome to the forum.

I am pleased to hear you did not experience many withdrawal effects from the Zoloft. I agree that it is best to stop a Benzo gradually especially as you have been taking it for 20yrs.

With regards to anxiety management without medication I would recommend you look into Mindfulness Meditation as it works really well and we have some good links in our resources section.

congrats-you are a brave and strong willed person to quit the meds cold turkey. i did the same and its been 3 years now. i truely wish you sucess but you have allready done the hardest part. stay strong. it takes a while to loose the weight. i lost 20 lbs-took about a year
