Superstitions

Hi Family,

Is it just me, or does everyone else who suffers anxiety have odd superstitions? I find my thought process, especially lately with things going on with my dad, to be this way.

He and I haven't really spoken in about 3 weeks but I finally got him to agree to go to therapy with me next Wednesday. The day before I leave on a two-plane trip (one of them being a small rinky dinky plane) to Lubbock, TX to be with my in-laws. When I did speak to him on the phone, he mentioned making amends to people, and I asked casually where mine were. He said he wants to make amends to people who are going to die soon (people he knows who are sick, old, etc) before making amends to the younger people...including his 24 year old daughter (me) who he's harmed the most.

This is completely irrational thinking but... I do find myself wondering today..."what if his agreement to come to therapy is because it will be my last day? What if I get those amends because I'm one of those people who are on that 'expiration' list?"

Just wondering if I'm the only one who thinks this way?

PS...back to the plane thing. I absolutely hate flying. With a capital, bold, underlined, H. The principle of not being in control of my environment (or escape) gets to me. Blah.

Your worries about flying are of course fueling this worry.

You are absolutely not on the expiration list!! ;)

I understand the worry and control issue! That is a tough one...but you are stronger than the fear. ..use your skills!

I hope your session with your dad goes well. It is wonderful of you to make the effort! :)

you can do de-anxiety programs at many major airports around the world these days. keep strong.

I mean, if ya walking down the road and a truck loses it's brakes and is coming right for you, then are you in any more control? safer up there, than down here, and that is not anecdotal, it is plain fact.

I have these things usually.

When I was scared of flying before, once I thought "This flight has 40-50 people on the plane, the selected ones came together to die on plane crash today? Must be it! "

LOL! I've definitely thought that. Or "there are no babies on this flight... I bet it's because God wanted to save the children and this ships about to go down."

Jeez. I'm so happy I'm not the only one.

What do you all do to try to counteract fear of flying?

I take Xanax. That is all. Haha.
