I recently had surgery where my dr the dentist told me to stop taking my Xanax because he didn't want it to mix with the Vicodin he gave me. I went off Xanax for a day and a half. I was taking Xanax 3 times a day to nothing. Now I'm back on Xanax at a higher dosage to level me off. I'm having attacks and my from fight or flight . I think they keep happening from anticipatory anxiety attack. Anyone have any suggestions or inspiration to spare? I would be so grateful to know I'm not alone and it will get better. Thank you.

Hi Div,
Depending on how long you've been on it, Xanax can be very difficult to stop. It's not always wise to stop cold turkey, as you can feel significant withdraw symptoms and increased anxiety.
That being said, I do think you need to be careful about
medication interactions. I know it's the weekend, but perhaps you can call the pharmacy today to discuss this? Or does the dentist or the doc who prescribed you the Xanax have an after-hours line? I would discuss any starting/stopping medication with a doc/pharmacist right away.
Do know that you are not alone Div. We are all here for you to listen and help support you. Anticipatory anxiety is very common and pretty standard for a panic disorder. Try to remember that although uncomfortable, anxiety itself is not dangerous. You are ok and you will make it through.
You have gone through a big ordeal with surgery and new/changing medications, so it is not unexpected that you would be all off balance. Talk to your doc soon, do whatever works for you to try and relax, and know that it will be better soon.

I've been on xanax for years daily, if I'm even an hour late taking it when my body is used to it, I start to feel sick and very anxious. Xanax Is a med to never stop cold turkey. I would call your dr or pharmacy for help. Prayers to you.

Thank you for your responses. I spoke both my dentist and psychiatrist. They both agreed I need to be off the Vicodin Which I have been for 2 days and my psychiatrist said I must go back on Xanax at a higher dosage and in a few days decrease the dosage back to normal and I just need to relax as best as possible . Which I am. Sure many of you understand having anxiety disorder can be super difficult at a time like this. Also I lost my appetite completely any suggestions on something light to eat. When I have anxiety I get nervous of Eating anything . I can not put into words how much I appreciate the support

Good job Div, I'm glad you talked to the experts!
Do your best to eat some food, since you need that energy to heal from that oral surgery. That means a dessert for dinner is a-ok!! :D

Hi DT,
I would check in with your local hospital, clinic...or NAMI
Nami.org
One of these should be able to direct you to a local support group.:)
We are here for you as well!

Let me know if you would like me to post any others for you!
...and I forgot to mention in answer to your question regarding appetite/eating...
...do you have some Ensure or Boost meal replacement shakes? These are filling and will meet you nutrition and caloric needs.
Peace and progress. :)

I'm actually drinking premier protein meal replacement shakes. They have 30 mg so twice the protein as ensure.

It is a journey...
...be patient with yourself and the process.
Do all you can...therapy, self help...the medication. You will find your right combination for management.
Support counts as well. We travel this road together and encourage each other along the way!
Keep posting. :)
