I was on 20 mg of Paxil for 7 years. I started getting more and more frequent bouts of severe anxiety where I wake up with my heart racing and it lasts throughout the day. I get simultaneous hot flashes and shivering from cold. I have no appetite and every time I make myself eat, I throw it up. I figured the Paxil wasn't working and decided to switch to something else.
I went to see a doc about coming off Paxil and going on a new medication. He seemed to know what he was talking about and I felt comfortable with him. He had/is having me taper with Prozac. I went down to 15mg of Paxil with 5 mg of Prozac for 4 days. Then 4 days of 10 mg of Paxil with 5mg of Prozac. Then 4 days of 5 mg of Paxil with 5 of Prozac. Now, I have been on just 10 mg of Prozac for 5 days.
Before I started the taper I was having one of those bouts of severe anxiety. The problem is that before these bouts would last for a few days and subside to my usual anxiety state. However, this one hasn't. I feel like it's because of the taper that I've spent nearly 3 weeks in this hyper-anxious state that even Xanax can't lower. I'm also having mild headaches, weird tremors and buzzing in my head.
Did the doctor have me taper too quickly? Did he make a bad judgment? I was a little wary about seeing him because he's only been in practice for 6 years, but my PCP recommended him... If he did make a mistake, how can I trust him to handle my med management going forward??
