Do you feel isolated?

I do feel isolated with this anxiety. I don't socialize, work or get out much. I think isolating ourselves isn't healthy and when I feel better I hope I can work on finding things I can do to ease back into being around people and also finding things I enjoy doing or things that make me feel like I have value.

Hi

I can relate to your post as I tend to isolate myself to as I have bad social anxiety and find that even when I am with family and close friends I find it difficult and very tiring.

I have to really push myself to socialise and this is something I want to improve.

Can you do volunteer work, such as at a hospital or walking a dog at the kennel?

During the worst bout of my anxiety, I was very isolated. I didn't want to go out, I could barely go to work, I didn't see my family,etc. What helped me most, was doing it a little bit at a time. I'd take a walk around the block and take pride in that small accomplishment. Or, I'd go see a movie, or maybe go to an outdoor mall. Baby steps help a lot to make us feel a lot less alone in anxiety.

Those are exactly two of the places I would love to volunteer at. My husband and I also have had a little discussion of next year helping with Holiday dinners for people. We usually like to donate a turkey and sides to a food pantry but this year we just can't do that either.

Like said above I think baby steps are good. Rather than think about going to a big social gathering or event with people, spend time at the park where you are around some people but basically where you just say hello and keep walking. Or yes volunteering with animals is good too.

In the depths of my anxiety horror I didn't want to do much at all, but kept reading I needed to do things that stretched or even scared me a little. I started small but fairly quickly got to where I'd socialize in basically normal ways. Now I still prefer quiet time at home or small groups but that's just my natural introvert personality.

I agree baby steps are a way to go. I have to use this route so many times. I can get to a point I cant go to a store without panicking and I have to work on it bit by bit to get back to doing it again.

I am a loner myself.
I am stuck in my bed most days so much I can get bed sores ...seriously.

I feel very old and tired all time than my biological age always .

I try to get out every day if I can.

But I get anxiety always.
Malls are crowded and parking is a pain .....so I am home.

Please read my new thread and hopefully you can find at least a little benefit from it.

While I'm reluctant to label it, do you feel isolation is your comfort zone? Yes or no, comfort zones can be debilitating.

I feel taking baby steps as mentioned several times would be the way to go for sure. Lately, I'm fascinated by babies, but have always been a fan of dogs. Perhaps its the innocence in both. I'm not sure. Anyway, there's always many sweet dogs out there that need a little love and they're of no threat. It's hard to put what I want to say in words. These two types of being just make me beam a bit. They make it easy to forget what's bothering me for the most part and I promise it's always something. Walking that dog is all win/win and there are few sure wins in life. You're both getting exercise and doing something good that benefits you both.

Keep plugging.

I'm with you buddy, I'm always isolated, I hate going out and I hate that I hate going out. I use to be social no problem, but now I have to really push myself that it's very tiring. I think cause I'm scared of feeling bad and I don't want others to notice, I also created this fake safe place at home, I call it fake because I still feel anxiety hefe, but less than somewhere else, I hope you can make progress.
