Indeed it can. When I first started suffering from anxiety back in 2012 I had issues with breathing insofar as it felt like I could not inhale deeply enough to get a satisfying breath of air. However, if the truth be known, I was getting too much air because, according to the physician who examined me, I was hyperventilating.
So what helped me a great deal were breathing exercises that I practiced in the anxiety class that I took.
