"Ever since i started prozac, my sleep's been disrupted. I used to be able to fall asleep, uninterrupted all through the night, with as little as 12.5 mg of seroquel, now i need 75 mg and i still wake up midsleep everyday and it takes a while to go back to sleep again. I've read that ssri's specially prozac, zoloft suppresses rem sleep and cause mid night awakenings. I'm wondering if switching to another med, like say Lexapro might help? Any thoughts?"

1. "like hibee suggests-you must take Prozac first thing in the morning. other wise it will disturb your sleep. its powerful stuff"
2. "I am currently taking Prozac and don't find it causes me sleep problems I take mine first thing in the morning but I do know that it can cause sleep problems in some as it's a very activating medication.
"Lexapro can also cause sleep problems so I would chat with your doctor about options if these sleep issues are ongoing."
4. "Lexapro caused major sleep problems for me the second time around. Not so much the first time.
"I'm on mirtazapine right now and that puts me out."

"Hi Hibee. I see that you're taking olanzapine. So I'm guessing even if you did have any potential sleep issues from prozac, olanzapine would have protected you from them."

I'm (Tim Tam) on Mirtazapine anti-depressant (7.5 mg, 15 mg was too much, and caused my appetite to soar, and my toes to twitch 15 minutes after I took it as I lay down to sleep).
I take Lithium (as a biopolar) which brings down mania (helps sleep?) and somewhat lifts depression, along with the above Mirt.
I, too, still have trouble sleeping, so I take 1 mg. of Melatonin from health food store or the net. And it puts me right to sleep. 2 or 3 mg. of Melatonin must be OK, for they sell a 3 mg. tablet of Melatonin.
Some say they take 6 or more mg. of Melatonin. (You can check the "I can't sleep" topics on this 'Anxiety" forum, on this and 4 or 5 or more pages back).
Some here say check with your doctor or druggist to see if health store sleep aids are OK with your meds.
