Buspar question

Hi everybody
My doctor took me off Xanax and put me on buspar. He said Xanax is addictive. Well I already knew that. I take .5 mgs a day.
My sister told me to stay away from buspar she had awful side effects. But every med is different and she always has side effects to most meds. I've had good luck trying new meds.
I want to give it a try it. Its only .5mgs
Has anyone else had good luck with buspar

Buspar made me feel a bit odd, but it definitely has good anti-anxiety properties...it does take a little while to build up in your system though, and you have to take it at least a few times per day to maintain a constant level in your body. I do know it's also used with SSRIs to counter some of their side effects, so it's a well regarded med overall.

Hi JG,

If you need a daily med for management, then I think it is worth a try for you. I like and agree with your outlook...that your sister's story won't necessarlily be yours.

If you need an Rx, more for occasional acute anxiety and attacks...I recommend you research Vistaril (hydroxyzine)...as a rescue med, taken as needed. It works more closely to a benzo, but without the dependency risk.

I hope you find the right regimen for you soon...and that you are well in general.

I have used vistaril but my insurance wouldn't pay for it.
I will give the buspar a try and see how I like it. Thank you for the positive insites smile

I agree with everything AT says about buspar. I e been taking it for three years now. It usually only works on mild anxiety and will take up to two weeks to work. My only side effect was lightheadedness. You will have to take more than just once a day, as it has a really short half life of about 4 hours. Good luck!

Wondering if you have an update on how you're doing! I'm considering this med as my only medicine for anxiety. I have taken SSRI in the past but they killed my sex drive so I'm hesitant to go back to them at all. I was told by spar actually helped avoid the sex drive decrease so it sounds hopeful! Would love to hear an update!
