So today was his doctors appointment. Of course I was super anxious before and during. The pedi is very concerned about his kidney function and is suspicious of type 1 diabetes. We couldn't get a urine sample (you try getting a 3yr old boy to pee in a cup) but we went in for labs. Let me tell you, that was the worst. Having to hold him down while they drew blood. Nope. Awful. It took four of us and I was in a mild panic attack the whole time. He was perfectly alright after though, of course.

We won't know anything for a few days, until the labs come back. So it's going to be hell for me for a few days.

If you pray, please pray for him. If you don't, just keep us in your thoughts and send us some positive vibes!

I'm hoping for the best.

As for the test, seems like they could tell you while you are in the waiting room, get your child to drink a lot of water. Then, as soon as he says, I have to go to the bathroom, bring him back, and we'll have something to test him with.

That way, they might be able to avoid the blood test.

Thank you! I'm hoping for the best as well. We already had the blood test. It was needed to check his liver function and kidney function. The urine test was to test for sugar in his pee. The pedi said if the blood tests show an indication that the urine test is needed then she can give us a cup to take home. I think he'd be more comfortable doing it there anyway. Or put one of those 'hats' in the toilet bowl and just dump it into the cup after.

I am sorry to hear how rough that was...my 'momma's heart' reaches out to yours!!

Oh dear...more waiting. :/ I know how you must be feeling atm.

Remember that worrying prior to getting the facts is most likely worrying for nothing...

...but yeah, I know that is easier said than done...

...so I am sending thoughts and prayers for calm...and for overall good results.

Thanks S.C. It means a lot to have support.

After his appointment I dropped the kids off at their sitters and went to my therapy session. I'm pretty sure I cried more there in that hour than I have in a long time. It felt good though. I think I needed it. I've felt much better, less heavy, since.

Hopefully the wait won't be too long. Maybe a day or two. I'll try to keep busy and occupied until then.

Thank you for letting me know about the test situation.

I was thinking about the difficult blood test was because he could not go to the bathroom.

Whew! That eases my mind. That's what I was wondering: could he give the urine sample when he really has to go, like before he comes in that day?

So, thank you for clarifying that. The sight of everybody going through all of that was getting to me.

Now, if we can just get Momma calmed down.

It reminds me of a note I saw on the office bulletin board from a fellow employee who had gone to the hospital for the birth of his first child.

The note said, "Mother and baby doing OK. Don't know about daddy."

So, if we can get Momma through this, everything will hopefully be OK.

Oh gosh. I felt nervous for you just by reading the story. I would recommend listening to your doctor's advice. If something doesn't sound right from your doctor, you have the right to ask questions or look for a second opinion. I have bad aversions to needles and blood, so I feel for you. I wish for the best outcome for you!

It's also important to find a doctor that has patience and will get to know your child. If you are satisfied with your doctor, then great.

Sending lots of good thoughts for his lab results! And you have my sympathy, my son had to have a draw at around that age and the nurse blew his vein... I nearly lost it. So hard as a mom to watch and hold your kid down while they do it, but it's quick and they seem to forget easily thank goodness!! You are taking good care of your guy! Hope you get good news soon!
