Water went up my nose when taking a shower now I am afraid of brain eating amoeba.

Hey everyone back on here again with another issue with the concept of the amoeba. Was taking a shower today and I was leaning back in the shower and had got water droplets go straight into my left nostril. The water was like a fighter jet in my nose and by the time I had realized what had happened I began to blow my nose hard to try to get it out but to no avail. Anyway now it's been a few hours anxiety has set it along with a headache from blowing my nose to much and to hard and just ugh.

I am posting to get myself to calm down and to finally be able to go to sleep without fearing the worst. I live in Southern Indiana and I know the water down here is treated properly, but I cant get my mind to calm down. Thanks for the replies hope everyone is doing well

Hi BF and welcome back...


...although I am sorry that it's due to a new worry.

However, the concern you have about the water borne amoeba is only your anxiety acting up, as this is only found in contaminated natural bodies of water...

...and even then, extremely rare.

You can not contract it from tap water.

oh man i just posted a similar story but mine was from the hose
im on day 6 since the incident happened and im scared as well...
it takes 7-12 days for symptoms to appear im just waiting on day 12

hypochondria sucks!!

Yeah it is a very worrisome thing to think about. Although when I went to work this morning I was completely fine the panic was gone and nothing was bothering me by late afternoon my mind is in a full blown panic. I don't know what to do or say I am just freaking out (not intentionally). It also doesn't help google is filled with horrible article after article telling you why you NEED to panic and be fearful. sad I am not feeling well and I am trying to calm myself down, but googling for answers is only making it worse.

This whole thing sucks. Worse thing about it all deep down and I mean like deep down in your very soul you know there is nothing to worry about and as much as you try to reason and calm yourself down the more the "What if's?" begin in your mind sad

Google is NEVER a good idea. Seriously, it just feeds the anxiety. It was one of the first things my therapist told me to stop doing.

Google is not a doctor. If it could diagnose you properly then we wouldn't need actual doctors.

I know, I know!, it's difficult but you really need to stop googling about it. You're just feeding the anxiety by doing that.

Work hard on your self help measures and keep your mind occupied. Easy to say, I know, but an idle mind is an anxious persons worst enemy.

Amen to that. Google can be a great friend, while at the same time being the worst enemy to a person with anxiety. Fortunately I have been able to calm myself down with only a few flare ups of anxiety overall though its better. But some issues here and there arise to replace ones that have been dealt with.

I will update this post every now and than. Hopefully this post could be used to help other people who are worrying about this. It's a good stress reliever for me and hopefully others in the future.

Hey so I am going through the exact situation as BF exactly the same I'm from Miami, Fl was showering and got water in my nose while washing my face I blew and blew my nose same feeling as when I would get water in my nose in the pool but this time I'm panicking and don't know why!! I googled water went in my nose and this was the first page that popped up so I registered and hoping that someone can tell me there's nothing to worry about because I googled the symptoms and some apply I'm scared

Hi Deon,

You have nothing to worry about. Tap water is not an environment where this kind of organism can live.

What you fear only lives in certain bodies of natural/untreated water...

...and beyond this, it is EXTREMELY rare.

So your risk is really non existent.
