Brain Eating Amoeba

Hey everyone I am posting a new discussion because this has now completely consumed me and my thoughts. So brief story I was outside water my garden at around 2 in the afternoon with temperatures reaching the high 80's. As I was watering them in a over the head fashion with the shower attachment on. While watering the wind blew large amounts of water into my nose. I blew said water out and thought nothing of it and tried harder not to get anymore in my nose. Fast forward to around 11 or 12 pm and horrible shooting burning pains being in the back of my head. Although I have had these pains for 2 years now I thought nothing of it. But now I am having cold chills along with body aches and pains. I am questioning if I should go to the hospital.

I truly fear I do have the brain amoeba and the pain is only getting worse and worse. Any thoughts and opinions would be most appreciated. I am genuinely scared for my life and am questioning if I should leave to get checked out.

PS: Also Thank you Scaredy Cat for your comment on my other post I appericate it, and since I do not know how to delete threads I left the old one there, that and this is becoming much more of a issue now than what it was a few hours ago.

N. fowleri (the brain eating amoeba) cannot live in properly treated municipal water sources. Which, more than likely, yours is properly treated. It prefers warm, stagnant waters. It's incredibly rare even if you swim in those places. The water generally needs to shoot very far up your nose, as in falling off skis or a tube being pulled fast by a boat. The chances of you actually having N. fowleri is very, very, very low.

That said, if you are having continual symptoms of body aches, chills, and shooting head pain you should see your doctor. Not the ER, but call your GP and explain what's going on. Like I said, it's more than likely not N. fowleri but getting checked out and taking care of whatever it is will help ease your anxiety. And if all these symptoms are coming from anxiety (which is possible) your doctor can help you manage it with medication, if you're open to that.

Call your doctor. Get some peace of mind. Take care of yourself and use some self help techniques in the mean time.

Does your health plan have a "Nurse line" that you can call to explain your symptoms and fears to before seeking urgent care?

Also a update it is Day 4 now since I got the water up my nose and I am feeling better and worse at the same time. Work was okay there was a small amount of panic/ anxiety, but nothing to bad. I actually woke up in a pretty good mood. However as the day went on my panic began to build again. Once I got home I felt sick again, I had a touchy stomach today and it has been with me for almost the full day. But overall not bad, and than comes 5:00pm and I am feeling like I have no control left of my body, I completely believe at this point I am in the process of dying. I get in my car and rush to urgent care. I arrive at 5:55 had only to wait 5 mins. as it was a slow work day. Get to the back the check my vitals all green across the board. I am 21 weight 168 temp. 98.1 F. Pulse rate was 78 beats/min Respiration rate 16 breaths/min. and blood pressure was 126/85 inches Hg. Everything was good no sign of infections in ears, or mouth and eyes functioned normally to changes in light.

End result was I got my blood drained for another tick panel test to check for Lyme or antibiotic activity. All good, most symptoms stopped when I was in the waiting room. However when the blood was drained panic began again. I have no idea why and when I got in my car I just started to cry. I have been so frustrated and so scared these last few days that they have taken a harsh toll on me. Even more odd is when I was driving away from Urgent Care and taking the back roads (to be able to cry without anyone noticing) I randomly blurted out how I missed my grandfather. I have no idea why I did, but I did. And in reflection that may be why I am so anxious and while I have been feeling ill. That I fear death and I don't want to lose anymore people I love and care about as recently my grandpa passed away back in November of last year.

Writing this down has helped me express that, and while I was in the midst of crying so much of my anxiety was gone. It was almost a religious experience, it's just so hard to describe. I do however believe the head pains are a real issue, but is something that has been edge on from all the large amount of stress I have had this past year alone.

I wish I could say I know 100% I don't have a brain eating amoeba, but I honestly can't. Again know it's super rare, but when stress imitates so many other diseases your left with only your own thoughts on the matter or google research. Both of which CAN BE terrible for you. Sorry for long post just thought by writing this could help me or someone else.

Regarding your last update (#3), I think it would be very good for you to simply thank god or the universe or the strength inside of you for that peace and silence in your head. As easy as it is to not trust that you deserve it, concentrate on that feeling and tell yourself that it is "natural" and you are "worthy" of it. Try not to dismiss it as it was a wonderful gift and perhaps you will have more times like this while you learn coping skills and discover the true nature of your symptoms. All the best. Kelly
