Hey Everyone

I've been lurking on here for a few months now and thought I would reach out and introduce myself.

I've had off an anxiety for many years. Until recently, I have been able to control it without any medical assistance.

In May, I ended up with Lyme disease. I am fortunate that I was able to treat it very early and according to 3 doctors I have nothing to worry about. Easy for them to say.

My anxiety has been on overdrive ever since this and I am in constant worry that I am still sick from Lyme or have some other major disease. Every "un-normal" feeling puts me in days of an anxiety ridden state. My hands shake all the time, random muscles are sore, my right eye will twitch off/on and I feel like I am just going through the motions of everyday life.

My GP doc put me on Buspar in May. Started at 10mgs a day and I am now up to 50. I really do not think its working at all. I put a call in to him today that I need something different like Zoloft or Lexapro.

Hi Mike! Any medical diagnoses can be stressful and that sounds like its triggered you wave of anxiety. I'm sure you've seen the resource page....it's really helpful.

I've had anxiety as well off and on. My son got sick for like 6 weeks back in April and after he was better my anxiety took over my life. I was worried sick about anything and everything. I took buspar and didn't noticed a different but I probably didn't even give it a shot honestly.

I've tried both lexapro and Zoloft. Everyone is different so keep that in mind. I think it's worth a shot to see if it helps with your anxiety.

My hands do shake periodically and I'm constantly checking if they are because I feel like they are! At first when my anxiety was high I was sooo sore around my shoulder area. I feel its where I manifested the stress. My eyes twitch due to stress and before my anxiety got awful a few months back my right eye would twitch non stop.


I use this app called headspace that helps with meditations and Abide every morning.

Know you're not alone and what you're going through is part of having anxiety. I actually saw my Pyschiatrist yesterday and my biggest issue is not being able to tolerate ssri's. I wish I could...gosh I wish I could. I just want some type of relief. Coping skills are imperative.

Good luck and don't stop visiting the boards. This is really what helps me most, knowing I'm not alone and that others feel what I do.

We are glad that you have joined us...though sorry to hear of your recent increase of anxiety challenges. Often, even after the trigger is gone, the anxiety can be stubborn. So while it's good news that you treated the Lyme early...the reality is that it may just take some additional time and effort to get your anxiety managed again.

Talking to your doctor about your options for other Rx's is a good plan. Can you also talk about the possibility of a therapy referral at that appointment? IMO, therapy is an essential part of any recovery program.

Since you have been reading for some time...you've also no doubt heard me banging on about self help and our Resources? Please see the top of the main forum page here for great material to get started with. The Stress Relieving Exercises and Meditation links are very helpful...and we even have health anxiety info/help and book recommendations that should help you with your physical symptom/illness related worries.

Keep posting with us as well if you find it helpful. We understand, care and support is key!

I too find myself always checking my hands 24/7....well not when I am sleeping. I know that this is causing them to shake even more and then of course I go into a major panic that I suffering from major terminal illness. And yes, the Lyme Disease kicked off my anxiety to new heights. Dr Google does not help.

I am using the Headspace app as well. I have to learn to get more disciplined with it.

Quick question.

As I mentioned, I have been on Buspar since May and it has been zero help for my nervousness and anxiety. In fact, I feel my nervousness has gotten worse which is side effect of this drug. Why in the world would you market a drug for anxiety with a side effect of nervousness.

Anyway, I meet with my doc on Wednesday and I want to try something different. What is the overall consensus of

Cymbalta
Zoloft
Lexapro

Hi mike!

I was was on buspar for a couple years. It really works for some people and not for others, unfortunately. You are almost maxed out at 60 mgs, so I think it's pretty safe to assume it's not doing much for you.

I started lexapro almost a year ago now, after being on buspar for two years. I was so terrified of ssri's and the side effects, that I started by taking nibbles off of a 5 mg pill, haha. By the time I made it to a whole 5 mg, I felt SO much better. I did stay on a super low dose of buspar too, as my doc thought it might help with side effects (which I had none).
