Hi all. So with my Pdoc I quit Zoloft 11 days ago cold turkey as my Doc said to do after being on 100MG for the about
10 yrs (only tried a couple times switching but always ended back on it) due to it quit working and was causing unmanageable side effects. She had me switch to buspar. Well lest me tell you, I have never experienced anything like this in my life. The withdrawals are horrific. Still have awful brain/body zaps, nausea, diarrhea. I'm not as achy but still feel bad. I have no choice but to rally through and still work, be a mom and wife but its soooooo hard. I called Pdoc and that is frustrating. She says well maybe go back on half of Zoloft for 3 days then a 1/4 and blah blah. I say no I'm not starting that whole process when you didn't wean me off in the 1st place. She also says well maybe its the buspar and we should try something else. Ugggg I just want to cry, which I have been more emotional the past 5 days than I have ever been. Any advice? Please and thank you. I feel like I am dying with all the withdrawal effects.

Hi Mel,
Oh you poor dear...I can't imagine why your dr. did not have you discontinue gradually.
Even when starting another med...it is usual for the primary Rx to be weaned slowly...
I hope that you start to feel better soon...(or perhaps reconsider reinstating to the 50 mgs...and decreasing from there if things become unbearable)
Sending sympathy...encouragement and best wishes that your transition is ultimately beneficial!
Keep us updated and we'll keep you in support.

Mel,
I’m so sorry. I’m literally in the same boat except that I did the weaning off method yet still experience horrible, horrible side effects. I was on Zoloft 100mg for 10 years and only began the process about
7 months ago...at 12.5 now and am pretty miserable 98% of the time.
If this doesn’t feel right, I’d get to a dose where you feel good again, and then try the slow discontinuation method. If you want to talk about
this with me further let me know

I feel your pain. I quit Zoloft ct and it was several weeks till my head eventually cleared. brain zaps were the worst part. with 11 days in - I don't blame you for not wanting to go back. you should be clear in about
another week or so lets hope

Hi
Sorry to hear you are having a tough time at the moment I am surprised your pdoc recommended that you stopped cold turkey as Zoloft is known to be one of the hardest to discontinue due to withdrawal effects.
I agree with above that going back on a small dose then gradually decreasing it would be a good plan.

Thank you all for replying. It is helpful to know that we are not alone. It is so weird as I was feeling a little better Monday night and now yesterday and today have been awful again.
Blu's Mama I would love to talk with you more...

Wow. Mel, is this your first Pdoc you've seen? I remember you saying you were originally seeing your regular doctor, then made a Pdoc appointment.
Taking you off Zoloft (100 mg) all at once was a really irresponsible, terrible decision of the doctor. In fact, it's a negligent decision. Then when you call her up she's just "Well...maybe its...well...maybe its..." I would be questionable about
that doctor's standard of care.
I came off the Zoloft last year a lot faster than some of the individuals here who have tapered off. I dealt with Zoloft withdrawal + Klonopin withdrawal + Xanax withdrawal. All of the withdrawals are dangerous and tapering really needs to be slow and cautious. I don't remember how fast I came off the Zoloft, but no, you certainly don't do it cold turkey.

MelB - so sorry to hear you are going through this. I was taken off Zoloft (!50mg) and put on Cymbalta. It was pure hell. I had a lot of G.I. issues which to this day I attribute to the Cymbalta but could very well c/h been the Zoloft withdrawal. On a positive note, you have learned something about
self advocacy. Now you (and I) know that it is not wise to withdraw from a long term med cold turkey. Hope you feel better soon!
