Hey Everyone! New to anxiety forums. Have had sporadic anxiety for about
15 years. Always controlled it myself. 4 years ago I had a massive heart attack while on vacation in Mexico. 37 years old. Turns out I have a heart condition but that's for another forum! Anyways...since this has happened to be my anxiety has slowly gotten worse over the last few years. Usually I'd get a week or two every year pretty anxious but it would always go away. 3 months ago the anxiety came and never went away. I went to my doc and he prescribed me a low dose of Lexapro. Escitalopram here in Canada. 5mg for 2 weeks and then up to 10mg. I've now been on 10mg for 3 weeks. So I am in my 5th week. First 8 days were he'll. High anxiety. Day 9 it started to go away. By day 18 I felt awesome! Barely to none anxiety for about
2 weeks and now the anxiety is back. Not bad, but it's there and has been for about
4 days. Is this normal to have ups and downs even thoigh I felt so good for 2 weeks? I don't know if I need to ask my doctor the up my dose or should I stay on 10mg's for 6 to 8 weeks? I'd really like to hear from someone who has been through this after being on this medication for 5 weeks. I guess what I am doing is looking for reassurance!

Hello and welcome!
I don't speak from personal experience, but have read enough posts here to know that your currwnt situation is not unusual.
It is not uncommon to enjoy some relief early on...only to plateau later...and it usually a good indication that an increase is needed in order to reach a beneficial level from your Rx.
Do talk to your doctor about
what you are going through, and hopefully together you can come up withna good plan for moving forward.
For now please see our Resources at the top of the main forum page here for great self help material to work with right away. Practicing the suggested exercises daily will make a big difference in how you feel.
Great job on all you are doing to manage your health...body and mind.
If you find it helpful...post with us anytime for support and encouragement!

Thank you. I have a doc appointment on Monday so we'll see what he says. I have been seeing a counselor as well. I have also taken up meditating which I am finding is VERY beneficial. I just do it in my own house with videos from Utube. I love it!

Went and saw my doctor early and he upped my dose to 15mg. I'm on day 2 of the higher dose and it seems to be already helping. No new side effects yet. But going from 5mg to 10mg didn't affect me at all either. Guess I'm just lucky! Fingers crossed!!
