Hello,
I started taking buspar on Saturday 10 mg 2x per day. I noticed that the morning pill (9am) makes me dizzy and makes me feel weird. The one at 6 pm I do not feel anything. What is your experience taking this?

For what I understand it takes weeks before it really works so hopefully it will make me feel better. I also wanted to know if I could take Klonopin while taking Buspar. Thanks!

AK,

The dizziness is an expected s/e with this Rx. You may find eating first helps? Also, it should resolve to a good degree as your system adjusts to the new med.

Usually Buspar has a shorter start up time than an SSRI/SNRI...so you can expect to feel therapeutic effects in about a week.

I believe the use of a benzo as needed/PRN is okay, but you'll need to ask your prescribing doctor to be sure.

I’ve been on buspar for years, and used to have those same exact symptoms while in the “start up” phase. This is easily cured by making sure to eat before you take your morning dose. If that doesn’t help, cut the dose in half and take the other half in the afternoon. Buspar has a super short half life of just about 4 hours, so you are totally good to take it a few times a day.

Thanks. Is it normal that I feel anxious? I just feel that the anxiety pill causes me anxiety! How much time should it take to feel relaxed?

Plus I keep thinking and thinking about all the side effects and make myself more nervous...

I wouldn't expect any medication to change your life and fix all of your problems. Society has become lazy and dependent on pills as the answer when it is not. Medication is only an assistant- YOU are the boss and YOU have to do all of the hard work and figure it all out for yourself. Laziness is a huge part of the problem today because people don't like to take the time and do the hard work smile

I do not feel that I am lazy, I work very hard fighting anxiety and I feel that it is normal to have questions when a new med is started. Trust me I do all the hard work...and I do not see anything wrong about looking for support and help from people that have the same issues and may understand. I do not believe we have to do it alone, the whole point of this forum is to find support.

I have taken Buspar for about 2 years now. I still get dizziness, though I'm not quite sure it's from that.
It may be anxiety as well as the medication. I take 10 MG 3 times a day, and it's the only one I take regularly (I take Xanax as needed when panic attacks come on). My doctor said to take 1 1/2 (15 MG), 3 times a day, but I noticed it was making things worse so I cutback on them myself.

Things will get better with Buspar,
I remember when I first started taking it, it was a daily dizziness, and it initially made my panic attacks worse, and my anxiety worse for about 2-4 weeks.
Also, this medicine will increase your sensitivity to cold, at least that's what I found out

Know that this will get better eventually!
Also, skipping a dose (like I do sometimes accidentally) makes these side effects more prominent on the next one you take.

It is totally normal to feel anxious when starting any new medication!

Also, buspar takes quite a bit of time to start working, about two weeks in my case. Hang in there.
