Hi Ozarker,
I am sorry to hear that you are dealing with panic attacks...the are absolutely miserable! I never really understood what the difference was between an anxiety vs. panic attack...and think that the terms are simply used interchangeably.
As far as what can be done? Yes, for bad episodes, your rescue med is an excellent tool! However, since you will not be getting prescribed more, I would use this as a last resort after trying your coping skills first.
Regular use of self help anxiety management techniques can not only help during an attack...but also, with daily practice...help prevent them.
In the Resources, you'll find great material! Check out the links for breathing through a panic attack...as well as the 'Stress Relieving Exercises' and Meditation Videos that can be used regularly for overall anxiety reduction.
I also have a favorite breathing technique that I will be sharing again soon in an upcoming post, so be sure to look for that in a bit.
Wishing a great day, as well as peace and progress in your journey!
