I have been on Escitalopram for 20 days at 10mgs. I tried Prozac for 8 weeks and it didn’t work. I had two afternoons this week when my anxiety eased and hope this shows something might be starting to happen. It gets hard when so many people say they are better after two weeks. Do people recover on this drug in 6 to 8 weeks? I am trying my hardest not to take a benzo but take a vistaril instead. I need some encouragement that this drug can work. I take 50mgs of Trazadone at night which helps me sleep

Hi Lynn.

I was on Escitalopram (Lexapro) for a few years and it helped a lot. I was on 20mg, anything lower wasn't helping. You might consider speaking to your Prescribing Dr. about increasing your dosage and see if a higher dose helps more.

She wants to keep me at 10 for 6 weeks. I am sensitive to Meds. I had two days Sunday and Tuesday with much less anxiety. Today it’s bad again and took .25 Klonipin. I also have vistaril to help with anxiety. How many weeks did it take Lexapro to kick in for you.

your dr is correct-keep your dose low to start lex as its known for side effects in the start. smart to use your visteril vs a benzo. I take celexa which is a weaker form of lex and it took 6 weeks to work but works great. hang in there is my advice. glad traz works for you . didn't for me

if your dr prescribed all the meds you mention-you have a competent dr. he/she covered all the bases

I started noticing a difference at approximately 6 weeks. Give it time and see how you feel.

You said you were on cipralex for awhile so I am assuming you are no longer on it. I have been on it since January 10 mg and it has been very good for me. My dr. suggests staying on until next summer when my biggest current life issues will probably be over and done with. (legals).
Can you tell me what I can expect to go through when the time comes to take my med dosage down with the aim to stop taking them? Were there a lot of bad side effects weaning off them?

Hi Wendy.
No, I am no longer on Lexapro.

I am really not the best person to try and answer your question because I did it all wrong. My Psychiatrist had her license pulled by the Medical Board, I was not in any condition to try and seek help from another Psychiatrist so when the Lexapro ran out that was it. I am fortunate that I had no side effects from going "cold turkey." I am sure there are others on this forum that can answer your question. I wish you all the best and hope you have no problems when it's time for you to wean off Lexapro.
