Interesting topic! I will be curious to see what others respond!
When I was first struggling with panic attacks, I preferred to be in a public place, like you said. It provided distraction, and also made me feel comfortable that I would have assistance in case anything catastrophic happened...because I truly felt like I could die during an attack, because that's what it felt like to me...a medical emergency, and if I was home alone, I would be helpless.
However, now that I have better management and no longer fear dying from an attack...being alone allows me to control my sensory input (decreased stimulation) and practice the necessary coping skills when I need them.
So, long story short...it has changed for me. I think doing whatever works for you in this point in your journey is the best path!
