Lexapro/lisinopril/brain zaps

I've been on Lexapro 20 mg for almost 5 yrs. I was just put on Lisinopril 5mg, since starting it less than a week ago I'm feeling tired and sleepy, but what is concerning me is a sudden increase in brain zaps that I've only ever gotten when I forget or am out for at least 2 days. Anyone else going through this? Not sure if I should stop the lisinopril or go to the hospital.

I am on cipralex which is a weaker from of lex and also take linsiporil 5mg daily and havnt had this issue. doubt you will get any answers at the er as they probably don't know about brain zaps. I had them bad when withdrawing from Zoloft so I know what you are going tru. since lex is much stronger than cipralex there could be an interaction. have you checked on line for one?

Yes. I've been looking but haven't found much info. I've been taking both in the am, going to start BP in the am and the lexapro at night and see if it helps. I go back to the dr in a week, I'll see what she thinks. I'll bet shes never heard of brain zaps. Thanks.

I am sorry to hear of the unpleasant s/e's you've been experiencing with your new Rx addition. It is frustrating to run up against issues when trying to manage one's overall health.

Do you have the same prescribing doctor for both meds? Do you see your GP for your A/D...or a P-doc? The latter would have a great knowledge of how psychotropics might or might not work with other medications...so a consult with one would be ideal.

Your pharmacist can also be a great source of info regarding Rx combos...so consider giving him/her a call for advice.

I checked my dose of linsiproil -its 10mg . sometimes I have taken 20mg. so your dose of 5mg and zaps makes less sence. but you are on a much higher dose of lex than me so who knows.

if you take lex at nite -it may be hard to sleep. try lex am and bp med at nite instead. lex is activating and could keep you up at nite.

I tapered off Lexapro because I felt it gave me increased anxiety. I had the brain zaps for a few days. I went from 10 mg. to 5 and then stopped. No more zaps now.

Hi Pauli.

Nice to meet you. I did some searching and found a huge amount of information on mayo's website. There's a massive list of medicines that might interact with Lex and Lisinopril. Both of these medicines list "unusual tiredness or weakness" as a possible side effect. Here's a link to the Lexapro and below is a link to lisinopril.

Thank you so much for this thread it has helped. I am dealing with the same thing. I cannot get into see my GI for several weeks and the anxiety of this has me on pins and needles which does not help my stomach at all. Hopefully others will respond as well.
