Hello All,
Has anyone had success with Lexapro for Social Anxiety?
Or, have you had success with a different SSRI for Social Anxiety? If so, which one?
I apologize if this topic has been discussed recently. Feel free to point me to the thread if it has.
A quick background/update on me. I was on 50mg Zoloft for 8 years, originally prescribed for anxiety about leaving for college and anxiety related to constant traveling as a student athlete. In September 2017 I weaned off Zoloft because I felt that it had lost its effectiveness — my anxiety returned, worse than ever before. I thought I'd try a non-prescription option to address the new anxiety. The new anxiety is socially triggered, but mainly in situations where escape is difficult or socially improper (i.e. business meetings, group dinners, weddings, auditoriums, airplanes or other public transport). I get worried I am going to do something humiliating, like pass out or vomit before I can get out of sight or to the restroom.
I visited a psychologist for 9 months to work on CBT and talk therapy, but didn't get much relief. So, after trying no medication at all for a full year, I started back on Zoloft again this September (2018). I've now been back on Zoloft for two full months. I haven't felt much difference or improvement. I know SSRIs can take a bit to kick in, so I plan to give it at least 4-6 months before changing. But, I did want to start to get your opinions about other SSRIs and their effectiveness for Social Anxiety specifically.
Note: I do have a prescription for .25mg Xanax (dissolvable). I don't really want to take these on a regular basis, so I'd like to find a non-benzo solution for social anxiety.
--Thank You All
