I'm having a difficult time recently with smelling cigarette smoke-it's been daily for the last week. This has happened to me before and it's gone away... and come back and gone away over the last few years. I can go months to a year without experiencing this, but when it comes, it's maddening and extremely uncomfortable.
I also just so happen to HATE the smell of cigarettes.
Back when I first began having severe anxiety and experiencing derealization, 7 yrs ago, I noticed that my anxiety/DR often came about when I smelled actual cigarettes. Now, smelling actual cigarettes doesn't always trigger me, but having this phantom smell sure does worry the heck out of me.
It's hard not to Google it. Even though, for the most part, things I find about it talk about it not being uncommon and that it most often has to do with a sinus issue - which I have a deviated septum and allergies, and have gone through periods of sinus issues on and off since I was a pre-teen.
Anyone else ever deal with phantom smells??
