Its been one week and my body went into a state of Panic about
a week ago when I had several stressful things going on. Since then ive been battling this feeling of uneasiness in my stomach. It makes me feel helpless and my anxiety makes me have a feeling hopelessness and dread like something bad is going to happen? Im on 10mg of Lexapro with .50 xanax as needed. Ive taken .25 xanax about
4 days ago but im also worried that im using that as a crutch/getting addidcted to them. Im trying to battle this beast using a “sober” mind and not having to run to a pill everytime I feel uneasy. Sorry for the long post and rant, im just feeling like such a bad spot right now.

Hi AK,
I am sorry that you are going through such a challenging time r.n. It is frustrating after having a nice reprieve and good place of management for a good stretch of time.
Even after the triggers for our increased anxiety have passed, the symptoms can stubbornly linger. I don't view using your rescue med as needed for a period of time while you get your footing back as a crutch. Would you think of a diabetic temporarily having to increase his insulin during a higher than usual blood sugar episonde a crutch? Certainly not...so why does society view mental illness as different than a physical one?
I say use all available tools at your disposal...including self help of course, until you are feeling better.
You will have a turn around again soon. Hang in there and keep posting when you need support.
Peace and progress,
S.C.

Hope you get to feeling better. I don't look at it as using a crutch either. Do what you need to feel well. Hang in there and let us know how you are doing.
Hugs, Karen...

It sounds like the Lexapro isn't working if you need the Xanax quite often.

MMB,
It sounds like AH is having an acute bout of anxiety due to situational stressors that are happening in his life atm. I think his daily Rx usually performs well for him.

Thanks for the responses guys. Unfortunately I dont think this feeling is going away anytime soon. Its a constant dread that im feeling And While I know this too shall pass its just so hard to live with it as I have to take care of my daughter and wife. I havent taken any xanax but im just exhausted and hard to have any outlook of hope. This may just be the depression trying to nudge itself in as well. Sorry everyone, just ranting

Maybe you need to do something nice for yourself at this time. It would probably make things easier in the long run for taking care of your wife and daughter. Sometimes we spread ourselves too thin. Do something nice and enjoyable for you.

Hi alohaknown,
Sorry to hear about
what you are going through. Anxiety can be compared to a battle that takes place in the mind, and perseverance is vital.
Here is a thought that you might be able to relate to and a suggestion that might help:
Rather than a single, mountainous problem, it is often the accumulation of small, seemingly insignificant distresses that induces panic—much like the way running too many individual electrical appliances on the same circuit can blow a fuse.
One solution is to write down each problem on an index card and arrange them from the simplest problem to the most difficult. Tackle them one at a time.
Writing out your distresses changes their makeup from what you fear and avoid to what you can see and resolve.
Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

I do not agree with getting by.,s advice about
using your Xanax anytime or as much as you need too. benzos are extremely addicting and even using "as directed" can get you addicted in short order. use them ONLY in a emergency crisis like an extreme panic attack and you wont to avoid going to the ER-that sort of thing. sounds like depression sneaking in to me. your lex should be strong enough to take care of it-if not consider an add on. benzos are not the answer.
