HI Tim G...
I do this laying down. But first of all I will relax all my muscles from head to toe. Visualize it and if they don't relax well, I work on them until they do. Then I have a "mantra" that I repeat over and over to my breathing in my mind. I am usually asleep within 15 minutes. I visualize my mantra, I see it spelled out in my mind. I breathe in and see one syllable and breathe out and see the next. My mantra is ooom-nell-eee-yom. You can use it if you would like. It is a meaningless word to me. Some say they should be six syllables but mine is only four. I hope that this helps.
Hugs, Karen...
This is something I haven't tried. Sometimes I relax by using progressive muscle relaxation: tightening then relaxing different muscle groups going from toes to head. I also have used the 4-7-8 breathing technique: breathe in through nose 4 seconds, hold breath or 7 seconds, breathe out for 8 seconds. Listening to meditative music to relax before sleep is helpful . ( Thomas Moore's Music for the Soul CD is perfect for this).
Does anyone else have favorite meditative practices?
