What gives you Comfort?

Great thread thanks for posting it.

I am happiest when I’m in the great outdoors I love nature and like to do sport which involve the outdoors such as skiing, climbing, windsurfing but I also love music and it helps ease my anxious mind and I love going to gigs when I’m feeling up to it.

I enjoy the days when I don’t see the fox that lives in my backyard, or his little cub, sunning themselves in my driveway like I did this morning. I don’t enjoy hearing people, when I’m telling them I’m calling animal control to set up a trap so they can be freed out in the woods somewhere, and I’m told, Oh, they don’t come out now because of the virus. Yeah, I like nature, but I don’t like it in my backyard. I like walking around the block and sometimes seeing a neighbor and sometimes having a conversation. My spirits increase when that happens. I know if that happened on a regular basis my spirits would increase. I enjoy watching True Crime TV shows and documentaries.

Have you called animal control? I wouldn't go by what someone says. Do you have a live trap you could catch them in? Or maybe animal control does.

I had a family of foxes that lived near me. There were two adults and four babies. I guess they are called "kits". And they say the fox is more related to a cat than a dog. Though I find that hard to believe. Anyhow I have a video somewhere of the family of fox. It is on VHS tape. Old.

One day one of my dogs got out and chased the fox. When she came back she had blood on her mouth and a hole through her bottom jaw. She got an infection and had to have two teeth pulled. I never saw the family of foxes after that. But I have seen one go through the yard. He was trying to catch a squirrel that was in a cherry tree. I feed the birds and the squirrels come in too.

I love looking at photography. I had a camera but it isn't working. My phone isn't bad with things close up. But I want to get a new camera. I had the same one for 15 years.

I had not called animal control until your message below to do so. So, I called city services today and they said animal control had not been working because of the virus, but had started back today (Monday).

So I called and they did not handle that but gave me the number of somebody who did. I called and it said leave a message. I left a message, and will let everyone know what they said should they call me back.

Two adult foxes and four babies living nearby. Oh, gosh. I guess only people who've had foxes in their backyard or nearby can understand this, so again, I appreciate the tip.

Also, sorry to hear about your dog getting torn up by the foxes. That sounds brutal. That's another reason to have a trap set. Any stray dog, or cat, walking through the area would probably get killed. Or, person, like me, walking down my own back driveway.

Foxes are small. They don't prey on cats and dogs. Of course, they will defend themselves if necessary. Another fear is often rabies, which very seldom occurs in a fox. If a fox doesn't look healthy, its much more likely to be mange which appears similar.

Foxes have a very varied diet, Urban foxes eat earthworms, insects, fruit and vegetables and a wide variety of both domestic wild birds and mammals. Insects include large numbers of beetles, cut worms (the larvae of noctuid moths, which they get off lawns on wet nights), and both larval and adult craneflies. Most of the birds they eat are feral pigeons and small garden birds, and the most frequently eaten mammals are generally field voles, abundant on allotments, railway lines and other grassy areas. So urban foxes really do have a good varied diet.

Obviously it is your right to call animal control if you wished, I just wanted to present you with some facts to consider.

I know, they look gentle in the pictures. But when you see one come out of a small wooded area of your back yard, 50 feet from your house, that's not a comforting sight.

Also it's also only 40 feet from where my grand kids jump on the trampoline. But even without that, just thinking about walking down my back driveway not more than 20 feet from where he could be, with his cub, is more than I can contemplate.

Also there is a stray cat that lives next door, who walks down my driveway. What a surprise that would be for the cat, thinking everything's was OK. And a stray dog could notice the fox and attack him, like Karen said, and then I could have a stray dog that's chewed up.

I called my local vets office today, with Karen's nudging and such a suggestion from a neighborhood website, and they gave me the names of some people who trap, and one of them is supposed to come by in a couple of weeks.

My cat gives me some comfort, I love cats!!! I am also a believer in God and it helps to have a spiritual relationship...I also love just about any kind of music, is also therapeutic for me...8-]]

I'm the same was about dogs. I had two, and the last one died about 8 months ago, and I haven't gotten another one because I don't have the energy level that I did years ago when I had dogs.

Would feel like I needed to give him exercise and everything and don't know that I would be able to do that. Also, with no dogs now, I realize how much effort I was putting out to help them.

I'm finding how much easier it is without a dog.

The shepherd I have now I got from German Shepherd rescue. She was one year old when I got her. She is a little spitfire also. Now she is ten and winding down her life. She has degenerative Myelopathy. I hate to have to put another dog down but the suffering will get worse for her. I hope to see her and all my other shepherds at the rainbow bridge when I die.

Wanted to mention I also had my cancer surgery Friday. Horrible procedure and lots of pain and discomfort now. I am so sick of the pain and suffering of life. This is one thing which sets off my anxiety for sure. I pray everyday this horrible virus will go away. The world we live in is such a nightmare now.

Hi Karen,
The surgery went well from the standpoint of what needed to be done. Unfortunately the soreness and pain are with me now. I already have pain from degenerative disc disease so this new pain is something else to endure. I just hate having to live in pain everyday. It just gets old. I so often long for my younger days when pain was just a once in a while thing. I knew the surgery was going to be tough but honestly not this bad. I can deal with my spine pain as I have meds for it.
