Hello everyone

I live in Georgia and we are having another round of bad storms. Storms give me tremendous anxiety particularly they are severe here.

So far I have no damage to my home but I do have water dripping down my chimney which means I will have to get a new chimney cap in all likely. I think the stress of being a homeowner is at the root of my storm anxiety. How I wish I lived somewhere where it didn’t rain or that I rented instead

Does anyone have storm anxiety like this?

I've actually always enjoyed thunder and lightning storms that produce a lot of heavy rain and winds.

I'm sorry that storms make you nervous though, TMO.

If it is leaking during a heavy storm, that happens and doesn't mean it will leak all the time. I would see if it leaks during just regular rain before I worry about replacing it.

It has been windy here for days and I get anxiety just with wind. It has been sunny though so if I stay inside I am okay. But wind alone makes me nervous. I don't know why.

Have a good day. I wonder if it is the storm or just you are stressed as a home owner. I remember you talking about it before. I am a home owner too. But I am lucky, mine is paid for. Keep hanging in there. You will feel better as the storm passes.

Oh ok. I noticed earlier that it didn’t leak when it was raining normally. When it started to rain very heavily then I noticed some drops of water coming down.

This is my first home so I am very stressed about it.
Once I get a new roof and some other stuff replaced I won’t worry about it.

The flashing could be another source of the leakage.
You just need a qualified person to take a look and advise you.

Ah ok. So far the storms here have not been as bad as predicted. Just some rain.

I will call someone sometime this week to come and check it out!!

well there was never any severe weather that materialized. It just rained and rained.

I noticed some drops of water that came down but not a lot. It’s supposed to rain again on Thursday but after that it looks dry. I will call someone out to look at my chimney then when it is dry

So I called someone and they will be out next week to look at it. I am relieved at that at least. Hopefully it’s not serious. I’m thinking it’s either a roof cap or flashing.

So tomorrow the person I called will be coming to my home to look at my chimney leak. Fortunately it has not rained the past several days.
I am concerned about the financial aspect of this though. The person that is coming is the same person who repaired my roof few months back. Their price was somewhat above average but they did a really good job and even did some preventative repairs that will save me money. I felt like I got a great value for my money.
I always worry about things like this. My consoling thought is that my house is small so repairs won’t be as pricey as if my house were big.

Hello everyone

Just an update. I had someone come out to redo my chimney flashing. The price was about what I thought it would but I have peace of mind knowing that the contractor is licensed and has a warranty for their work.

Also I am wondering what happened to ScaredyCat? I always found her to be incredibly supportive.

I too have storm anxieties.
I have a box fan that is kinda loud on high.
I stay in my room with the fan and tv on.
The fan cuts the thunder and lightning Noises.
